Really cool place. You're driving on the new highway, you see this structure way up on the mountain. "What is that?" Take historic highway 30, (partially closed) up to it. The only down side, they don't light it up at night. Now that would be great photos!!!!

Took my family to one of my favorite sights in Oregon. My sister was visiting from Johannesburg and I had to show her Multnomah Falls and Vista House (my two-go-to-options for friends and family flying through). As always, we loved it and had a lovely time! The view of the Columbia Gorge from Vista house is breathtaking! The kids loved it. It helps that there are bathrooms downstairs! My 5-year-old daughter wanted to know why dogs are not allowed into Vista House and the park rangers happily answered her questions.

This is a family friendly historical place. Inside the vista house there is a gift shop with lots of really nice memorabilia you can get. You can also get books about the history of the Gorge & Vista house. I grew up here & am now raising my kids here. I am thankful every day to be surrounded by such amazing beauty!

The Vista House was built in 1917 on one of the most beautiful scenic points on the Historic Columbia River Highway. It was constructed to provide travelers a place to rest and refresh themselves as they made their way down the magnificent Columbia River Gorge.
Since 1918, this regal sight has enthralled millions of travelers. From its surrounding vantage point 733 feet above the Columbia River and overlooking the busy I-84, countless sightseers and photographers have enjoyed a step back in time and one of Oregon’s most inspiring views.
The structure is 44 feet in diameter and 55 feet high. The exterior is gray sandstone. The roof, which for almost 50 years was capped with a copper roof, now has its crown restored to the original matte-glazed green tiles.
Inside, Tokeen Alaskan Marble was used to surface the floors and stairs in the rotunda and as wainscoting on the basement walls. The inside of the dome and its supporting ribs were painted to simulate the marble and bronze. Attached to the wall just below the dome, eight busts of four unidentified Native Americans are aligned so that each mirrors its own likeness.
