I am from the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, and my wife is from the Chesapeake Bay
area in Maryland. We both grew up shrimping, crabbing and fishing from the
time that we were in diapers.
That said, we know our seafood, and love it. Chuck's in Charleston is quite
simply a "first-tier" operation, with pristine fish fresh off of the boats, and a
wonderful selection of assorted products. Oysters are sold in a variety of
sizes of "tubs" ... and are all freshly shucked and, again, pristine in quality.
Chuck's is not actually a restaurant per se, but it does offer clam chowder,
as well as live Dungeness Crab, cooked to order.
Chuck's prices are slightly higher than other seafood outlets in the Bay Area,
but you pay for quality, and quality is what you receive.
First Class !! And, oh yes ... Chuck's actually offers its own brand of ...yes...
Chuck's Cat Food ... which is the dark bottom trimmings left over after the
cleaning and trimming of the fresh fish ... usually albacore. It sells for
approximately $ 1.35 a can ... which is cheaper than Safeway.
Highly (!!!) smelly when opened ... but there is no mistaking that you are
getting "the real thing" !!! And the cats just "lunge" into it !!
We will be back often.
