“We were ignored, waited forever, never got all our food, and the food was bad! What else could you ask for?”

On the day we arrived in Yelapa, this seemed to be the only place that was open...or the only place we could find, anyway, since it was starting to get late and we were hungry. After being directed to sit down, we proceeded to wait a total of an hour before even getting waited on! During that time, we twice tried flagging down the waiter. I was by no means expecting American style service, but this was ridiculous. The waiter would practically run past us to avoid us!

By the time the waiter took our order, they were out of the one decent-looking vegetarian dish: chile rellenos. I guess poblano peppers are hard to keep in stock? Anyway, we eventually ordered, and included an appetizer so that we would get something to snack on quickly. Well, so much for that idea--the main dishes arrived 1/2 hour later but the appetizer never came. How did we manage to even get the entrees to arrive? We called the waiter over and asked him. He proceeded to ask us to remind him what we got--"it was the shrimp and the..." Nope, no shrimp, fish and enchiladas.

We wolfed down the food once it arrived, but it was mediocre and not even hot.

Did I mention that after ordering a beer, it took 15 minutes while the waiter again ignored us?

We ran into some of the other diners from that night over the next couple days. They had ordered, been served, and ate all before we were even approached by the waiter. But I asked them if they had waited a long time and they said "OF COURSE, just not as much as you". So while I think we took the prize for being treated the worst that night, in general I believe people were treated poorly.

After a certain point in this experience, it became a joke how bad this place was. If you don't know where to go and you see this place, I'd say either ask someone what else is open (probably there is SOMETHING), or just go to one of the little grocery stores and get some snacks. You won't regret it.

My husband and I were wandering past on our first morning in town, which was a Sunday, and the smell lured us in. There was a full taco bar and meat on the grill. We had the chorizo tacos and they were the best we had all week. If you are around on a Sunday morning don't miss it!

They make the best Micheladas and their food is delicious and fresh. We had the chile relleno and shrimp tacos.

Was recently in Yelapa in January. We arrived on New Year's Day; consequently this was the only restaurant open for dinner. The atmosphere was nice, and though it was busy, not all of the tables were full. We were seated, and after 15 minutes no one had come to our table at all, so one of our party hunted down some menus on their own. There was still quite some time before anyone came to take our drink order, then some substantial time before we got our drinks. At that point no one took our food order; some more time passed and we finally flagged the server down (it appeared there was one person servicing the whole restaurant). 2 hours later, we had still not eaten where other tables had come after us and left already, so we let someone know. It seemed like the had lost our order as they stood at the table trying to remember what we had ordered. Some time later they came back and told us they didn't have what one of us had ordered. Finally 3.5 hours in we received our food. We tried to discuss this with the server and manager, and they explained that it was New Years Day and 'things take a long time in Mexico'. Mexican time I can understand - we were fully prepared to be there 2 hours waiting; 3.5 hours wouldn't have even been that bad if someone had actually offered us more drinks or some chips or something, and if multiple tables that had arrived after us didn't eat and leave before we had even gotten our food, and if the staff hadn't been incredibly dismissive of us. In their words, they did not 'believe' we had been there that long. It's not like we were expecting a free meal at all, but to not even acknowledge or apologize - well it was the worst dining experience I've had in any country, ever. After it was all said and done, we were there for 4 hours. The food was fine. Other than this, Yelapa was an incredible place with lots of other great restaurants and people and we had a wonderful time.

After a few days in Sayulita we were just looking for some down-home traditional Mexican food, and this place delivered. The tortilla soup and guacamole were great, the arrachera fajitas were pretty good. We were the only ones there that night which almost put us off, but that ended up being one of the best parts! We had the whole place to ourselves and got to sit right above the river. I was glad I brought mosquito repellent. Worth braving it for the location. Great place, good prices, attentive service, especially if you are the only ones there!
