“A hidden gem!”
Reviewed 22 October 2017 for a stay in October 2017

I say a hidden gem, because it doesn’t matter on the time of year that you visit, Lavender Cottage provides a homely and relaxing feel. A very short walk to the beach, it’s just perfect.
The Parsons Table in Arundel comes highly recommended, particularly if you’re looking for somewhere a little special to dine out, superb cuisine! Or, the OysterCatcher and LobsterPot, both very good too.
Thank you Simon, Nicki and family for making your beach cottage available for others to enjoy and make lovely memories. x

“Almost Perfect”

Let's get the negatives out of the way first.
Linen isn't included in the price, which means you either have to take it all with you, or pay extra. We chose the latter, as linen and towels for 8 for a fortnight would have required virtually taking an extra vehicle, and who wants to be making up beds? The service provided by a contracted business was excellent, but personally I'd prefer that cost to be included in the initially price.
A second negative was the number of toilet rolls provided. On arrival there was one and a bit, which seems a bit lacking. I'm guessing that was perhaps a simple oversight, and not the usual state. Certainly something we've never encountered in over 25 years of cottage holidays.
Thirdly, we did of course know that electricity was extra, and charged using a slot meter. We made sure we took a plentiful supply of £1 and £2 coins. We hadn't anticipated the warning that the meter was sensitive to forged £1 coins and could jam if a forgery was inserted, so we had a bit of fun inspecting every coin after careful reference to the internet. I don't know how it would react to the new coins, but I'd advise you to be on the safe side and take a copious supply of £2 coins.
Fourthly - there is no fourthly.
The tandem parking is a minor - very minor - inconvenience. It says 2 cars. We had an Astra and a C-Max on the drive most of the time, but by getting them as close together as possible there was room for a third car on the two days we had visitors.
EVERYTHING ELSE IS POSITIVE!
First, Lavender Cottage is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Six adults and two children didn't feel overcrowded and, very important, when the dishwasher was full there was still enough cutlery and crockery for another meal or drink.
The games room is a great facility and the the table football proved an irresistible draw, as did the large lego.
The garden is spacious and well enclosed for the dog we took with us. When we had visitors the garden was ideal for 10 of us to have a barbecue.
Situation wise, for a quiet family seaside holiday, Lavender Cottage is ideal. It's situated on a private estate and in effect the beach is private. The walk to the beach is a very short one - a couple of minutes. As the weather was excellent we spent most days there. A pleasant walk westward brings one to a decent café on the sea front on the outskirts of Bognor.
If adventure parks are your thing then Butlins in Bognor is there, and very much enjoyed by the grandchildren. Short car journeys away are Amberley Museum and Petworth, which the grandchildren both enjoyed, and both more to the liking of less active family members!
Middleton is a pleasant little village with small shops, restaurants and pubs. We had nice meals at the Elmer Tandoori and The Beresford. Good fish and chips to be had from Ye Olde Fishe and Chippe Shoppe, and meat and pies from the butchers next door.
All in all, an excellent holiday.

Thank you very much for your comprehensive review. It is very helpful for people to see. I am so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Lavender Cottage and found it mostly to your liking, we too love stays there. I am also so glad you found some of the highlights of West Sussex and Middleton itself.

Your comments are also very useful to me. The lack of toilet rolls as you suggest was most definitely an oversight. These are normally included as part of the changeover clean, so apologies for that. As for linen, we have never provided linen as we like to keep things simple and as cost effective as possible, which normally suits the people who come to stay there. This house is a summer beach house with no frills and mostly guests who return year after year. Over the last couple of years we have had a couple of guest enquiries for linen, hence the external company. It is something I can look at again in the future if it becomes more popular, or I could do a price with/without linen and pay the company myself.

Thank you once again for your booking and for taking the time to review our beach house.

“The perfect place for a quiet, family week away!”
Reviewed 7 February 2017 for a stay in November 2016

The cottage itself is the perfect size for a family holiday, and comes with all of the items you'd expect to have in your own home. The road is quiet and safe, and you are quite literally on the seafront, that is quiet and has a private feeling about it. I have stayed at the cottage 3 times now, and I now feel like it's my home away from home. I have already booked my next visit!

“Great Christmas holiday!”
Reviewed 9 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

Lavender Cottage was an excellent venue for our family Christmas break. Super spacious, well appointed accommodation, well equipped kitchen, with plenty of dishes/crockery etc which is always at a premium at Christmas. Lovely comfortable beds, and pleased we booked the extra linen service as well. The wifi is also excellent - so important! :) All easy to keep clean and tidy, and simple to work the underfloor heating. Lovely easy walking from the door to the beach. Slight initial misgivings about a coin meter were all dispelled as it was fine - and for future ref we spent about £85 during the week which considering it was frosty some days and we kept ourselves warm was good. So all good, and definitely on our list for a future booking either summer or winter. Thank you Nicki for all your help.

Thank you for your very kind review. I am so glad to hear you had a lovely Christmas week and found everything to your liking. Thanks too for the information about the electric meter. As we only go in the summer it is handy to know the likely costs. We hope to see you visit again in the future.
