After travelling England for a month it was a relief to finally stay in a cottage that has it all! The hosts were amazing, friendly and very accommodating, they even decorated the cottage for Christmas and it was magical! The cottage is warm and comfortable yet steeped in history. It has everything you need and is clean and tidy. It has a great little garden for warmer days and is opposite the pub for colder days. We also visited the Tropical Bird Park in the next village, which I can recommend for all ages. I cannot recommend this cottage enough, we will definitely be back.
The cottage is very cosy. Beautiful setting in leicestershire countryside. Within a short distance of historical town of Market Bosworth. We had a very relaxing holiday, staying in this lovely cottage which was ideal for our family of four.
The owners, Sue & Jim are very warm and helpful people who are house proud and have maintained their cottage in pristine condition. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome and to make our stay comfortable.
A great place to stay in a quiet village. Full of character and charm. A lovely welcome pack so you are settled straight away. We will definitely be booking again.
What most people do not realize is that Sunshine Cottage can be rented as a self serve cottage instead of a B&B. It is perfect for two couples or a family, since the unit has two bedrooms ensuite. One located on the second floor and the other on the third floor. It has a huge country kitchen and sitting area on the main floor. What a delight.
We like renting cottages as a base when we visit UK then go out in different directions to explore. The village of Newbold Verdon is about 20 minutes west of Leicester in the East Midlands. It is a perfect location to see multiple attractions. It is close to places like Warwick, Kilkenny, Bolsvar and Blenheim castles, Market Bosworth (Battle of Bosworth), Nottingham, Leicester (where the new Richard the Third visitor center opens this summer), Coventry and many other great locations. Travel is very easy by car or the local bus stop is half a block away.
The village is lovely with a great family pub called the Swan across the street. The new owners Steve and Bernadette have a great food selection, full bar and some great local beers. We met several of the locals there and became part of the crowd quickly. If you like finer dining a four star restaurant called the Windmill is only half a mile away in an old inn. The best part was their prices were quite reasonable. There is also a working mans pub and a couple of take aways nearby.
Jim and Sue the owners of Sunshine Cottage have created a wonderful get away. It was built in the late 18th century so it is quite eclectic with modern day conveniences. The Martin's welcomed us personally taking us through their cottage and leaving us with a nice welcome basket of goodies. In front is a quiet garden where I was able to do my Tai Chi in privacy and we were able to park our car off the main road. We were amazed at how quiet it was and with beds made in heaven we slept the sleep of babies.
One thing we really appreciated is they have a good high speed internet connection, so we had no problem Skyping family and researching our next days travel. My wife found several local trails for running with directions provided in brochures by the local council. We definitely recommend the Sunshine Cottage as a great place to spend a week or two of relaxed enjoyment.
