Booked afternoon tea here in the front room for a surprise baby shower. From the initial booking to the end of the shower the staff couldn’t have been nicer! They were brilliant directing the mum to be into the room without her knowing and the front room is a lovely setting. The food was amazing – freshly cooked – the cheese scones and quiche were still warm and the cream scones and cake were delicious. Came out in three large tiers and we got bags to take what we couldn’t eat home! Couldn’t recommend enough.

Happened upon this hotel when we stopped at the coffee shop, and decided to look at staying in the town overnight. Fortunately for us, the Clifton had a last minute cancellation. Our room was immaculately clean and very well appointed with modern, tasteful decor. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable - we had an excellent night sleep, and didn't hear a thing, despite overlooking a main road. Breakfast was very good and the service excellent - good choice of cereals and juice as well as a very tasty and niecleypresented full english! Our hosts were welcoming and friendly and our night was exceptional value for money. If we are ever overnight in S Shields we will certainly return to the Clifton

Returned to the Clifton for 3 nights after staying for a very enjoyable weekend last year. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms are attractive, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. (I wish all hotels had showers as easily controllable as the ones at the Clifton!) Breakfasts are good; we were out during the daytime, so unfortunately didn't have chance to sample the tempting-looking afternoon teas.
The Metro station is about a 10 minute stroll away and the ferry to North Shields (for foot passengers and cyclists) is a little further on. There are attractive walks through parks and along the shore within easy reach of the hotel. The Roman fort is well worth a visit if you're interested in history.

Room Tip: There is no lift, but there is at least one ground-floor bedroom.

Stayed over for a night to attend a family reunion and can say that this is a wonderful, friendly place which is both clean and comfortable with an excellent breakfast, and we would have no hesitation in either recommending it or booking it again.

We were changed to this guest house on our journey up, we were apprehensive but the minute we stepped in the door the apprehension disappeared. The room was second to none and the owners were so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was lovely and the little coffee shop looked fabulous with lots of delicious looking cakes.
When we return we will definitely be booking here.
