We've just (disappointingly!) got home from a weekend at The Gables in Porlock. Nowhere will you find a friendlier welcome or more comfortable stay.
The Gables is beautifully thatched which adds to its charm.
Its located right in the village within walking distance of the independent restaurants, cafes, shops and pubs which make Porlock such an attractive location for a weekend away from the rat race.
The Gables has a lovely garden and a lounge that guests are welcome to use during their stay.
Breakfast is fantastic with a freshly cooked option as well as a selection of cereals, fresh fruit and yogurts.
We'll definitely return to the The Gables in future and would highly recommend it to anyone (families, even with dogs, are welcome in larger bedrooms and there's even a cottage attached to the property for self catering stays too!).
Thank you Chris, Louise and Sophie for making our stay so comfortable and relaxed, we had a wonderful time.

Having had a terrible experience at a B&B we booked for 3 nights (and left after 1 night) on our 11-day road trip from Kent to Cornwall, we had to find somewhere else in a hurry for 2 nights. Found The Gables on TripAdvisor, phoned and left a message. Louise the owner phoned back promptly and was able to fit us in. We are so glad she could because The Gables turned out to be the best of all the places we stayed in. The room was lovely and spacious, the bed so comfortable, the view out over the garden most pleasant, the breakfast faultless and both hosts warm, friendly and welcoming. What else can you say? Other than we shall be back if we get a chance to head for Exmoor again.

Stayed for 4 nights. Quiet, peaceful yet close to the centre of Porlock.
Very friendly owners - even a pot of tea waiting for us once we had checked in.
Very comfortable with residents lounge.
Parking is either in the adjoining pay and display (£1 per hour so not cheap!) or on the road (free).

Lovely bnb! Able to accommodate for various dietary needs (given you call ahead!). Property itself was really sweet and the rooms were very spacious. The breakfast was fantastic, particularly the fresh berries! I wish they did offer to have it later - it runs 8.30 to 9.15 which doesnt give much opportunity for a lie in on the weekend. There is no parking on site but there is a public car park next door. This is a slight issue as you can only park for a maximum of 2 hours and have to pay something like £2. However, the chargeable times don't run all day and if you are out exploring it doesn't make a huge difference. We paid £5 throughout the whole weekend and never had to move the car. The prices are very reasonable for what you get and the owners are very friendly. Couldn't recommend enough.

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights. Neither of us could fault a thing. The place itself was full of character and had everything we needed. The hosts were welcoming, charming and helpful, they offered us maps and books of walks in the local area. The food was fantastic and catered very well for vegetarian/vegan diets. Be aware when booking that there is no parking available at the B&B but there are some local car parks which are not expensive. (There is also a church car park which is free apparently). I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
