We were doing a 7 day coastal walk from Minehead - Westward Ho! Mariners Lodge (West Porlock) was our first stop. We were warmly greeted by Caroline, who provided us with a refreshing cup of tea/coffee and some lovely homemade cake. We chatted away on a variety of interesting and engaging topics. She gave us some very useful information on the local area, especially on the Norman Church at Culbone. I strongly recommended ommend a visit to this unique place which has a great feeling of serenity and antiquity.
Accommodation wise, this is Caroline and Rollo family home. There was a sense that we almost felt part of the Clifford family!
Lots of interesting memorabilia in the various rooms. Our bedroom was very comfortable, with some fantastic views looking across Porlock Bay, to the clarity of the South Wales Coast. Breakfast was excellent, probably the best we had on our walk. This consists of locally sourced food for our fried breakfast and home made cereal and freshly baked bread.
We would not hesitate in staying there again, we loved it. But please bear in mind this is not an all mod cons place of abode. For example it didn’t have a shower, but having a bath after our long walk was indeed most refreshing!More
