With friend gone thought canal up to Taunton. Great views. Quiet area. Best place in Bridgwater for walks or slow cycling. Suggest to pop in to Boat & Anchor Inn ;)

I live in Bridgwater, so the canal is never far away. Most of the canalside paths are made up so it's a great choice if the weather has been bad as there isn't much mud. Some of it is wheelchair friendly too. There are sometimes fishermen who will show you what they have caught, you will probably see a sedate swan gliding along, ducks too, and sometimes if you are quiet, even a kingfisher. Near to North Petherton there is a space walk where you walk past all of the planets in our solar system, very good for children as they can run to the next one. There is a small cafe at Maunsell Lock which is seasonal, but in the summer is a great place to start and finish, there is a car park here as well.

We cycle along here 2 or 3 times a year - it's a shared walking/cycle path as well as some fishing (watch the rods, they do sometimes have them blocking the path whilst they bate them up etc), so do be accommodating for all. It is so peaceful and I have seen the odd King Fisher. We go as far as we can and have cycled previously all the way to Taunton and back again to Bridgwater. It's also nice the watch the canal boats navigating the locks.

We live only 5 minutes away from the Bridgwater docks, and use the canal path often. Just to get into town, going for a walk with the kids or to feed the ducks/fish at the YMCA or the pond

Kids love the wildlife and so do I

It's often a forgotten place but I'm glad we're nearby to enjoy this great walk

We enjoyed a family trip to find the inner planets (just the right distance for the little ones). Convenient free parking at Mansual Lock, lovely scenery, plenty of butterflies and a few farm animals to spot. We also found a couple of Mr Men from the Mr Men trail!
