Had been looking forward to our stay since booking but have to say we were a bit dissapointed.
Room was small and dark. Cobwebs from the roof to the light and windows dirty
The bathroom was tiny. No shelf for toiletries and no where in the shower itself to put shower gel. The shower itself was not very powerfull.
The bed itself was comfy and the linen spotless as were the towels.
Evening meal was overpriced for what it was and small portions. Good selection of drinks at the bar.
Didnt have breakfast so cant comment on that as left early.
Its the location that sells this hotel as its a beautiful spot. Just a shame that other things left us feeling that its just not the place for us.

At last, Tyn y Cornel is back at it's best. It's been through some rough times in the past few years with terrible owners, but with new management it is right back up to scratch.
Sitting in the lounge, looking out the window at the birds feeding with Talylln Lake and Cadair Idris right there is just the best place you could have a hotel.
The staff are all lovely and friendly, go out of their way to help you with anything, and tell you about local places and highlights.
My partner and I stayed in the accessible Teal room, and it is spacious and has a wetroom with shower chair, raised toilet and is suitable for wheelchairs easily. The whole ground floor is accessible-restaurant, lounge, bar, ramp down to see the lake outside, there are some benches the other side to sit and have a drink if the weather's nice.
The food in the restaurant is great. Nice to see a good chef back there.
Nice, varied breakfasts-enough variation to choose from to keep you going for a week.
Can't wait to come back. Miss it already. It's just peaceful

If you've not visited this beautiful location, you're seriously missing out. Our room was in the main building, and had dual aspect windows, one overlooking the lake, and the other the garden. It was brilliantly presented, with a skillful combination of shiny new fittings and tiling in the en suite contrasting with exposed slate apex walls and timbers, along with contemporary, but rustic and sympathetically crafted wooden furniture in the bedroom. An airy lounge with a bar serving locally brewed real ales was a delight, whilst the conservatory restaurant provided a suitable setting for a summer dinner menu. Friends joined us for dinner, and everyone found choices on the menu they were very pleased with. Perhaps not the most unusual menu I've ever seen, but a good selection of starters, mains and desserts at typical prices for this standard of cuisine. My only minor gripe was the creme brulee was a bit too set for my taste, but maybe that's just me. Breakfast next morning was in the main restaurant with a generous full Welsh on offer. Friendly, helpful staff of course.
I'd recommend booking direct with the hotel, especially if going for the D,B&B option

Room Tip: Converted boat house rooms are romantic, but bijou

This hotel has recovered pretty well under new ownership, although the refurb continues its all looking good. The food is now far better with interesting menus and full breakfast is excellent. The use of dining tables in bay windows looking across the lake (for evening meals) is a very nice touch. So just one question: WHEN (if ever) is the lake fishing being reinstated? Personally I have to say, I think it's not genuinely within the plan.

Room Tip: Rooms nearest the road have nice lake views but can suffer a little traffic noise at night
