Description: Take a stroll down Finkle Street, Richmond, and you'll discover a little piece of England that will remain forever French. Rustique restaurant opened its doors in 2009 offering traditional French cuisine amongst its Parisian-style surroundings. Transporting diners to the streets of Paris, with views of the Tower Eiffel and Arc de Triumph, diners can enjoy rustic French-style cuisine in amongst a busy, vibrant bistro atmosphere. In February 2016 the restaurant has undergone an extensive refurbishment! The A la carte, set menu & lunch menu offer a large and varied selection of meat and fish dishes cooked traditionally, using local products. Our carefully selected wine list, seeks to complement the dishes on offer, boasting a wide range of French and New World wines. Also concentrating our efforts on quality wines from an array of French regions and around the world to complement your food. As a result Rustique continues to be a favourite in the wide area amongst the residence and tourists. To experience exceptional 'service a la française' in the heart of England, visit Rustique.

Ate here during a one night stay in Richmond on Good Friday. It was ok, nothing really wrong with anything but at the same time not particularly special either. Service felt a bit rushed, food was alright but nothing that stood out. Wouldn’t rush to return.

This rustic gem needs no polish.
Tucked out of the way just off Richmond's main square it provides good French food.
Offerings from various menus are a delight.
Service and surroundings are pleasantly informal.
Well worth a visit.

We ordered a Ricard, "Sorry, no", there was no Pernod or generic Pastis (imagine a 'Scottish pub' that had no Glenfiddich, The Macallan or Single malts), no bread with the starters or mains, we could have paid for bread as an extra, have they been to France? The petits pois didn't come with 'lardons' but strips of ham. The food was absolutely delicious, the service friendly but perhaps a bit strained after the aperitif failure. I could detect little 'Frenchness', overall a 3 and I won't be back.

A poor end to 2017

Want to start by stating this is a review I really wish I was not writing.Staying in nearby Bedale for New Year we were keen to pre-book somewhere "special" for December 31st. Did so a few weeks in advance (we were travelling from North Aberdeenshire, though originally from Yorkshire) and were asked to select each course at time of booking.
We arrived shortly after 8pm.. We were not offered a choice of table. Seemed that the outside and upstairs were kept for regulars. We were shown to a darker area downstairs. Could not however fault the ambience on this our first visit. There's an outside-in feel to some of the space as it resembles a Paris street scene. Sadly that is all I can say for how French this restaurant really was. I can only presume that the kitchen and waiting staff were stretched beyond their abilities having to cater to an almost full-house. The scallop starters my wife and I ordered were cold. When I told the waitress she removed the plates with a curt "sorry about that" Our friend had the crab but we realised later that it should have been served with bread, but it wasn't. In fact no offer of bread at any time. How French is that? Nothing replaced or removed from the final bill. Main courses; friend asked for well done lamb but it was pink and tough on arrival, the veg however were quite charred. We had lobster. I really wish that we had been given a copy of the menu rather than the expectation of having to remember what was supposed to be on the plate. Lobster tail and Bisque yes but again did not realise until later that the plate should also have had lobster claw and a mango salad. These were missing. Dessert was not great; Christmas pudding was small and had a spoonful of liquid that none of us could ascertain to be either custard or brandy sauce. Not a restaurant I would hurry back to. Perhaps the manager or owner could take more of an interest before what could be a great experience dies a death through such poor detailing of advertised meals.

A prebooked meal for 5 early one weekday evening worked out very well. Our table was ready, there was already a pleasant buzz about the place as a few tables were occupied already. Plenty of menu choice from the set menu or a la carte, we all found something we liked very easily and there was a reasonable wait from ordering to eating.

We all enjoyed the inside/outside vibe and appreciated the quirkiness of Rustique. All in all a lovely evening with easy to access parking outside in the market place.
