Review of Mother Shipton Inn

Mother Shipton Inn
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$8 - US$21
Description: The Mother Shipton's Inn is a 15th century pub located on the outside of Knaresborough. With an old world charm, this pub serves up great local ales , excellent locally produced food as well as a few tall tales. A table that once belonged to the infamous Guy Fawkes and a haunted money casket are but a few items that add to the character that is the Mother Shipton's Inn.

We had planned on having a Sunday Roast for lunch, but ended up reaching teatime before having a meal. After chatting with a local resident living nearby, we understood Mother Shipton Inn only served food until 7pm that evening....so suggested we get in quick as it was already 5.30pm.
Upon entering the bar area and enquiring if they were still providing food, a friendly gentleman behind the bar confirmed yes and gave us two menus to choose from. We chose a table outside by the river and ordered our meals. Hubby had the roast sirloin of beef with Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes and seasonal veg. I chose the calves liver with mash and crispy onions on top. Both meals were freshly cooked and were lovely. We congratulated the waitress in two lovely meals....at which time she explained the cook was a young girl of 17yrs who had been training and today was her first day without assistance.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and he food was very tasty and well presented and hot. Highly recommend and would intend to visit again when we are in the area.

Can highly recommend this local friendly pub, couldn't do enough for us, offered alternative menus when asked, enjoyed a lovely homemade lasagne and pink gin and tonic. My friends and I were well looked after and would happily advise anyone to pop in, also family and dog friendly too!

Home cooked food is excellent. The service really friendly and helpful, steeped in history and very haunted. My husband and I couldn't praise it highly enough for quality and service and if ever in North Yorkshire again would definately go back

We booked for six people and sat round Guy Fawkes' table!

We weren't in a rush, which was a good thing, but the dishes for each course came out together, excellently cooked and fresh. The menu was quite ambitious for a pub, but we were all happy with our choices.

The crowning glory was the quite exceptionally good beer, of which the men in the party consumed too much, at very fair prices.
