Visited on the evening of the 28th to eat and watch the football. As previous comments the staff were under pressure and was unable to order good for 20 minutes to allow the kitch
en to catch up. It was a limited menu. Watched other food come out. When ours eventually came we got French fries compared to chunky chips served previously. Pub ran out of ice.

Not sure what happened on Tuesday night, but I was surprised when they told someone at the bar, they were not taking food orders for 20 minutes to allow the kitchen to catch up? Then they waited another 30 mins, they’d run out of some food - the waitress had a face like thunder and seemed to be stressed. Some of the food was returned as not hot throughout. The lad behind the bar needs a lesson at front of house as well.

Then tonight when I got a black currant, soda and ice, I asked for a stirrer as the cordial was at the bottom of the glass and the same glum bar staff woman used a lemon cutting knife that was by the ice bucket.... really!!! You are a disgrace.... maybe in a spit and sawdust pub.... a straw or a mixer stirrer would have been fine.

Not impressed with the staff in the slightest.

We turned up on the Sunday with England playing, great atmosphere, great Old Peculiar, good Drunken Cow gin and lovely food being bought out to diners. So we thought we’d give it a go.
We had a shoulder of lamb that was perfect. Also a Brie and mushroom Wellington. This was nice, but served on salad with vegetables that just didn’t work. Once again great drinks had. Now the odd bit.
We had staff arguing in front of us about table numbers, giving cutlery out when taking orders, arguing and swearing loud enough for all to hear in the kitchen entrance, the lady waiting sniping at the busy bar staff for not helping her, and surely if the kitchen is busy you can explain to customers that there’s a wait for food as all is freshly cooked and take their order with a number rather than not take orders from customers who’ve just purchased drinks. Then the rude argumentative customer who should have been asked to leave. Great beer once again, good food with an odd combination but maybe just caught everyone on a hot bad evening?

Visited on their opening night for dinners since a change of ownership. Very impressed, and our party of 6 were all in agreement. This place raises the bar for pub food, in fact it's not fair to call it pub food. Friendly and attentive staff. Probably our best meal during our Yorkshire Dales stay. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Stopped here on Market day (Tuesday) after a walk over the hills and this place is just what we needed to sit down, have a drink and watch the world go by. The whole town is busy, but not overly so, and this was half term week. We ordered food and drink at the bar, and was told that the food would be about three-quarters of an hour as they were busy. But The Yorkshire burger was delicious and worth waiting for. The beer is good quality and a fair price and have a good selection of local ale. The staff are all friendly and helpful. They do stop serving food later in the afternoon, and they did run out of food as one couple were turned away while I was there. But this was a busy day. It is a nice building with some interesting coving inside. Not too sure how people with mobility problems would fair as there was several steps down to the toilet. This might be worth checking in advance. The toilets are clean and an above average standard (for the gents at least).
We came back later that week for an evening meal. Booked in advance though. The food was good and everyone enjoyed there food. I had a pie, and although a large portion, it wasn't the best, I'm sorry to say, as everyone else enjoyed their food. The cumberland sausage and yorkshire pud looked amazing & huge. Overall, I would recommend this place. It's dog friendly too!
