I've been to Clitheroe Castle before but not for a long time as I no longer live as close to the town as I did.
Strolled up after breakfast at my hotel so came up the steep way around the back and wow what a stretch for the old legs.
Fabulous views on the climb and from the parapet walk.
Very peaceful up there.
No entrance fee to visit the castle, its keep and lovely grounds - only if you choose to enter the museum.
Very interesting castle.

Thank Marilyn P

If you want to see the Ribble-Valley in all it's glory during any season, this is the place to see it from. The keep is open to the public, free of charge all year round. If it raining the indoor museum is fascinating.

Thank you for your review. The castle keep does, indeed, offer an amazing view over the whole of the Ribble Valley.
There is no charge to enter the grounds and explore the keep. The museum (entrance charges apply) cover the history of the local area with lots of child-friendly activities including dressing-up clothes, brass rubbings, craft activities and a themed hunt around the museum.

Only a small castle but built in 1186 in the most prominent spot in clitheroe. Not much to see but some amazing 360 degree views. Also as a small museum and a cafe.
