So me and my mum spent a wonderful pamper weekend here and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we could book in to our room late morning, which is very unusual and had a lovely room overlooking the golf course. The food from the bar and also the restaurant was very good, couldn`t fault it - plus it was national Gin day so the gin of the day was discounted, so even better. We spent time in the pool area and was lucky enough to more or less have it to ourselves most of the time. The Summer Ball was on the Saturday night and it was nice seeing everyone all dressed up. The best part was our pampers though, the two girls who treated us were lovely and friendly and the treatments we had on the Saturday and Sunday were sooooo good - we floated out! Also the lovely ladies in the hairdressers who were very friendly and did a wonderful job with our hair (thanks to you all) Would definitely go back again. I`m not sure how busy the hotel can get if there is a wedding on as we only had the summer ball at night and that was in a different room.
Very creaky floor boards in our room and the windows can be a bit dodgy to open, which is a bit scary but a must when its warm as we had windows on both sides of our room and the sun shining all day - but the room was lovely and big.

Had an on course golf lesson with the Pro Dean
Superb
Course management, set up and swing advice plus problem solutions
Dean is a good coach uncomplicated and straightforward
Good company in the buggy as well very personable
I went having received the lesson as a gift but if you want some pleasant golf coaching either as a resident or independently
I would recommend
The resort facilities and the course condition was excellent

first time and certainly wouldn't be the last. Was looking for a "proper" restaurant to feed my dad and stepmum for their Pearl Anniversary and for stepmum's birthday. Lack of local places, found this one thankfully. Amazing setting, very friendly reception. Restaurant ambiance was great. Large area with large windows overlooking the gold course. Lighting and table layout was perfect. The bar and restaurant staff were very friendly and obliging. Food was delicious, service was great. A few groups were in, yest the service and food did not suffer, both excellent. Not the cheapest place around, but well worth the money. Melon and belly pork as starters. Fillet steak and lamb steaks for mains, no room for desserts. A great place, well recommended for special occasions or a treat for yourself anytime.

Last minute booking on a whim to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. Used to live local and saw Shaw Hill as an exclusive resort so expected great things for our £150 bed and breakfast. We got the last room available - a deluxe no less.
Whilst the room was a good size, if that was a deluxe we wonder what a standard could be like. The massive bed was two singles pushed together creating a ridge down the middle, the bathroom Was on a slope with cheap laminate floor, and the shower was an experience I couldnt wait to finish. Curtains wouldn’t draw, had to use a hair clip to keep them shut. Woken up by loud golfers getting ready below. Room needs updating to be anything other than basic.
So, we were really looking forward to breakfast. Food was great, but the level of service was poor. Inattentive - we were actually shown to a table having been ignored three times by staff by a fellow guest who said we’d be waiting for ages because the staff “weren’t with it,” Not the service you’d expect from a top notch resort like Shaw Hill.
Won’t be returning

Sorry to read you did not enjoy your stay with us, our bedrooms have been sympathetically restored in keeping with the listed nature of the building, yet we appreciate this is not to everyone's taste.

Our staff are normally attentive and friendly and we are disappointed to learn this was not your experience. We take your feedback on board and wish you all the best.

The hotel is in a lovely location and watching the golfers play on the fairways was nice and relaxing. The 'welcome' at reception was anything but welcoming. You need to work on this as I was appalled by the way I was spoken to. Totally frosty and non-welcoming. There were two ladies on the desk and neither were welcoming. C'mon how hard is a smile??!! Reading guests' comments we don't seem to be the only people who have experienced this. On the plus side; the lady in the Spa reception was friendly and the other staff in the hotel were too. In terms of the room:
The bulb in the bedside table needed changing as it was broken. We also had to call twice for a set of towels to be delivered to the room. The room was a family room and had three beds. We had been provided towels for 2 people and it's just irritating when attention to detail is overlooked.
We opted for a nice bar breakfast instead of a full breakfast in the restaurant. This was also a lot cheaper than paying £15/pp for breakfast. The lady who served us was helpful and friendly too. The best bit of the stay was definitely the swimming pool and spa!
