The Fish Slab is a small single-roomed gallery opposite the Peter Cushing.

It's non-profit-making and has weekly displays from local artists. Sometimes this is one individual; other times small local collectives. There are always good seasonal exhibitions around Christmas and the Oyster Festival (mid-end July) just gone saw a lovely "anonymous" exhibition by the "Made in Whitstable" artists.

Pieces are invariably competitively priced, and the artists are usually on hand to talk about their work. It's very friendly and welcoming, not pushy at all, so you can easily nip in for a browse and then out again without feeling uncomfortable.

Payment is often cash only (some artists have handheld card readers) but there's a Nationwide all too close by!

If you like your art, you won't be disappointed, even if it happens not to be your taste.

This is a small not-for-profit gallery offering space to anyone who books it. Rates are very reasonable and the shows are, more often than not, well worth seeing and some terrific affordable Art is available. This place is a great community resource. Long may it continue.

For such a small place the Fishslab always has interesting exhibitions. It's well worth popping in on a regular basis just to see what is on. It often features local artists and Whitstable is certainly a place that attracts them.

Lovely little gallery that used to be a fish shop, hence the slogan 'fresh art weekly'. This is a community run gallery and is hired on a week by week basis by different artists. This is a great idea, as art should not be juried - any artist should be allowed to display what he or she wants to. Always intersting. Always a surprise to see what is in there next.
