We stopped in beautiful Pluckley in the hope that this centrally located historic pub, would provide a warm welcome. Wrong! Whilst the outside looked promising, once inside we realised it was unkempt, poorly maintained and grubby thoroughout. The fireplace was unlit and the entire surround looked as though it hadn't been touched for a long time - ash and debris. There were corner areas full of what looked like junk and the bar area was stacked high with unwashed glasses. Everything was dated, and sadly devoid of the charm the old pub deserves. Someone decided it was a good idea to play old episodes of The Darling Buds of May on the wall mounted TV. Although this was muted, it was left on to compete with possibly the most 'dated' compilation CD I have ever had the misfortune to sit through. We couldn't hear ourselves think, let alone enjoy a quiet drink. The bar staff wee friendly enough but it felt like we had intruded into someone else's chaotic front room that they were struggling to manage, with children and dogs thrown in for good measure!
