“The War and Peace Revival 2014”
Review of Folkestone Racecourse - CLOSED

Folkestone Racecourse
Reviewed 17 July 2014

A hot day saw a friend and I visit this annual event on the Westernhanger racecourse.
I have not been before but was staggered at the enormous number of traders displaying their wares. And what wares! I can honestly say I have never seen such a wide range of (deactivated) guns, rifles, grenades, bombs, missiles, military clothing, badges, helmets, etc etc etc. The ancillary events included hundreds of military vehicles, lots of people dressed in period costume, military re-enactments, music and dance, and even an opportunity to see the actors from 'ello, 'ello up close. Yes, Herr Flick, Helga, the policeman with the outrageous accent....all there! Plenty of food outlets, shaded tents to escape the punishing heat, all made it a great day out. The only reservation? If it rains (as forecast on Saturday and Sunday) the access track to and from the car park (a field) will be a quagmire of mud. Be warned!

It is no longer a Race Course after all these years. It did recently hold a War and Peace Show which was excellent, but it's only once a year.

Joyce and Kevin from The New Inn, Etchinghill organised a ‘Day at the Races’ at Folkestone Racecourse on 25 September 2012.
The event included Breakfast, Lunch, Return Transport, Entry and Evening Meal and for those that could last Cheese and Biscuits later in the evening – all for the price of £41.
What a great day we had apart from betting on the wrong horses.
This was a well run event, certainly value for money and the food was excellent. Well done Kevin and Joyce.

Thank Mike R
