This fine old place, with it's ancient beams and history, cleverly combines the old and the new. The room we had was modern, well equiped, comfortable and with a lovely view over the Kentish Weald. Yet you can imagine the notorious Hawkhurst Gang of ruthless smugglers brazenly placing their guns on the tables and defying anyone to challenge them. No doubt the beer was not as good as the Harveys the pub serves today.
Obviously the challenge at the moment is to reduce the menu but retain a good choice and give people space. No faults there. All the food, not least the traditional as well as continental breakfast, was excellent. It was a 'full house' when we had dinner but they coped well. This is a gem of a place that deserves support in these difficult times and seems to be getting it.More
