At only 3.00 entry this is a gem of a museum. The history of the place and uniqueness set it aside.
It is a great activity to spend an hour or so.

A visit to Deal would be incomplete without taking in this fine museum housed in the old Timeball Tower. How did ships keep accurate time before radio? You will find out here. Also, some lovely models of sailing ships, various navigational instruments, clocks, the time ball mechanism itself and a couple of working telescopes to peer at the Godwin Sands lightship.
The volunteers were very welcoming and knowledgable too.
So 5 stars from me!

An interesting museum telling about " time" and it's communication to ships at sea. The exhibits are over 4 floors with no access for disabled. There is a VDU unit on the first floor if you can climb the stairs. The volunteer staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We visited as part of the Kent Wheels of Time scheme. There is a free on Sunday car park nearby. If this attraction was disabled friendly it would have rated 5 stars. One has to realise that not all attractions can be made accessible for people with mobility problems, that is where a friendly, knowledgeable staff helps.

We visited as part of the ‘wheels of time initiative’. I don’t think any of us had heard of the place before this.

First impressions were great! We were welcomed by a very friendly gentleman and lovely young lady. He introduced us to the pair of them, the museum, the clocking in machine and took us outside to watch the ball drop on the hour.

The rest of the museum didn’t really offer that much and didn’t take long to look around. I would recommend a visit if in Deal, but don’t go there specifically for this.

Fascinating landmark building by Deal's beach. The ball tower was there to allow ships to synchronise their on board clocks and hence navigate safely around the world.
