My stay at The George in Cranbrook for 1 night was good, no real issues at all. The hotel is welcoming and the room was a good size, clean with a comfy bed. A few quirky passageways up to the room which adds to the fun. Reception check in was excellent, a very helpful lady who was smiley and chatty. Bar staff were pleasant and attentive, food was nicely cooked and fairly big portion size too. With the room window open there was some noise from an extractor fan, but nothing excessive and this was turned off after 9pm anyway. A good solid hotel which does the job perfectly well. Would stay again no problem.

We booked at random having struggled to find anywhere for a last minute break and were very pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Yes, parts of it could do with upgrading but we had booked a Feature Room based on the pictures on the website and we got the Crimson Room which has the most amazingly comfortable Four Poster bed, a lovely bathroom with double ended claw footed bath and super wonky floors. Sharon, who checked us in, and looked after us in the restaurant on the first night was super friendly and went out of her way to help. Food in the restaurant was tasty and plentiful both at dinner and at breakfast time. Extra bottles of water were provided for our room for overnight at our request. We slept well, the bed was very comfortable and although there were drinkers in the bar and outside on the street the noise quietened down early and didn't disturb us. Our only gripes really were the size of the car park - totally inadequate - and getting charged £5.20 for a pint of Coke. We were told this was on tap but it was charged as 16 ounces plus a 330ml bottle.

Room tip: Go for a feature room

We was a little disappointed with our room. We decided to go for the next room up from a normal standard room. However, after entering, although the room was big with a lovely bed, it didn’t look as good as the photos, but I can accept that. One issue for me was the room’s window! I would expect for the price we paid £155 to have a view. Our view was a massive extraction fan from the restaurant which made a noise. I’m kind of glad it wasn’t really hot as there is no way you could have the window open with that! I feel the room was a no thrills for me. I’m not sure I would stay again for that price and no view. Although I did like the bed and the size. The staff were kind.

Amazing hotel with a fantastic restaurant. It's hard to know where you can trust with the Covid situation ongoing here in the UK but the management at The George are excellent. They've really gone above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one.

Thank you so much!

Selected this hotel totally at random as near to The Big Cat Sanctuary and Sissinghurst Castle Garden where we were visiting.

Staff were great, welcoming, friendly, engaging. We were delayed in our arrival and rang ahead to to let them know we'd be rocking up at about 11pm; they were most accommodating, watching out for us as the front had all been locked up for the night.

Room was fine - we had room 11 (Oyster) which looks out over the back. We had hot weather so windows were open all night and we didn't get disturbed. Some of the decor is looking a little bashed and tired, however, it's purely cosmetic and nothing a lick of paint can't sort out. Super shower! And lovely, hot water.

Food was lovely - mmm. Due to C-19 it was full table service for breakfast and dinner. Both were lovely, and although it was weird not to have a breakfast buffet, the staff were perfectly happy to just keep bringing you what you wanted. Recommend the breakfast apple juice from local supplier in Biddenden - divine. Dinner was just as lovely, had a lobster special and the tasty vegan satay burger (Stef, Sharon, Scott & Dan - Lobster-gate!).

Cranbrook has a lot to offer, as do the surroundings. Having never been to Kent (only through it), this was a great way to spend a couple of days. The George has masses of character, as do the staff! If you're looking for a solid 3* place to stay and eat, this is it. Expect quirky, the building is 800+ years old. We WILL be back. :)
