The sight of The Needles and accompanying Lighthouse is one of those well known iconic national views and it was good to see it up close having walked through the New Battery. We also enjoyed the walk up from the car park on a sunny day. An added bonus was learning of the UK’s abortive attempt to join the space race and the part this area played in that attempt.
There was a lot to see and a fair amount of war-time history to absorb. There were good views of the Needles. However, the emphasis at the Battery was on war-time history. One should not expect to see the longer term historical aspects of country houses. Nice cafe.
Well after reading a lot of the negative reviews on here we went with an open mind.
After arriving we paid the £5 parking fee which yes is a lot but if you spend a long time here it's not so bad.
We didn't have any kids with us so most of the rides weren't for us but there was plenty of others things to see and do.
After spending a couple of hours in and around the beach etc we decided to walk up to the old battery. Again you have to pay or join the National Trust so this is what we did. Was worth it though for the close view of the Needles.
All in all a much better day than we were expecting and I wouldn't let the negative reviews put you of.
A super visit. Very informative and clearly laid out. Staff v helpful. Great views of the needles and along the coast. Cafe really quaint.
Such a amazing great experience to see and great attraction to visit good spot. The view so stunning to see the sea on the horizon.
This is a great attraction as you can see the needles very clearly. Always love a National trust place and because we are members it was free. Thanks very much
