The location is perfect for access to Stansted. The price reflects the facilities etc available. My room was small but had everything I needed - especially the early morning cup of tea! The restaurant below is perfect and has an excellent menu - especially if you like Italian cuisine!

Room tip: My room was good and even though on the front of the building overlooking the street the road is very quiet.

Do not stay here if you want to sleep! Unfortunately booked a room on Friday night for an early flight next morning, arrived at 10pm to find room was above a pub which was very noisy with music playing very loud, you were literally in the room with Beyoncé, Whitney Houston and earth wind and fire and a loud of drunk people. Continued until 11, went quiet then started again until well past 12pm. Certainly not a boutique hotel!! Please make this clear to people before they book!!

Was excited about the promise of authentic Moroccan food. Awful! Rebranded and new menu which is overpriced. Food has no styling and very basic. Spicy sausage on limp packet salad, a couple of slices of halloumi in a plain white wrap with some iceberg lettuce‍♀️
did not deliver the Middle Eastern delights advertised. Nice concept and good decor but food left us very disappointed.

When we followed the Covid instructions and let ourselves into twin room 5 at the Green Man Boutique Hotel Takeley the beds were unmade, there were coffee dregs and there was a smashed window. We phoned to see why and were told it was deliberate in case we wanted an 'upgrade' to a double. They invited us to spend money in their bar for 20 minutes. We were already an hour later than we had said we would arrived so they were hardly caught on the hop. I said a double was unacceptible since I had deliberately booked a twin room (less than 24 hours before). The only twin room was the one with the smashed filthy window so there was no way they could fix that. I complained to Booking.com but, surprisingly, they did not offer any sort of refund. The lady thought that that was perfectly acceptable service. So did Booking.com. They said we should have complained to them during our stay. I will not use booking.com again. I certainly will not stay at the Green Man at Takeley. (Frances Obolensky is my internet name- I booked under my real name). Book in was supposed to be contactless but the lady appeared when we phoned and we did not succeed in checking in at all. We lost the money we paid.

Room tip: Avoid room 5

Ok so posting a review to help fellow travellers to this pub. As most people have indicated the welcome is really ‘Welcoming’
We arrived and a bit hesitant to what we may find but a true British pub with loads of atmosphere, a delightful host and very comfortable surroundings. Parked the car up and entered through front door, all Covid signs apparent. Met Dawn who is the owner and she was lovely and endearing, obviously rushed off her feet as endless calls, people to be served and food orders to be met by one chef it seemed?
Wine was great, food was great, atmosphere was great BUT the rooms are a real let down, dirty to the extent you felt uneasy to stay there especially with Covid. It’s a real shame as the place could be lovely with just a few extra cleaning regimes to mention the following in room 2:

No toilet paper
Dirty basin stained with coffee drips
Dirty stained shower tray, head, sealant beyond effective, no toilet paper, shower shelf at an angle anything put on it would fall off.
Dirt/rubbish in waste paper bin - unidentifiable?
Inside drawers full of fluff and dirt g
Hairs on skirting boards
Mirror so dusty could write your name in it
No hot water working
Cold tap dodgy and turned it on and water came out of companion basin as well
Ceiling lights balanced on head board
No fire escape awareness although you have to get to rooms through a fire escape exterior staircase - very dark and dangerous and unsuitability lit.

As I said earlier, this could be a gem of a place with just a little more TLC. Hope you get it working!
