My husband and I attended a wedding here on November 7th and decided to stay overnight and leave for Heathrow airport and home on the following day.
The Grove Hotel has been the site of stately homes of titled owners since 1583. The estate and buildings underwent major remodelling by the 4th Earl of Clarendon (whose positions included Foreign Secretary to two parliaments). The Clarendon family sold the estate in 1935 and for the next few years the house and landscape were neglected. Since the Grove was purchased in 1996 it has been transformed into a 5-star hotel with spa and golf facilities and many of the beautiful decorative features of the building have been restored.
From the moment one enters this beautiful hotel, one is made to feel a welcome guest. Our bedroom was large and comfortable, in a modern wing of the hotel, but we enjoyed walking through the exquisitely decorated public rooms on the ground floor, in each of which one curl up with a book, entertain friends and order tea, coffee and snacks at any time.
The breakfast was ample and attractively set out and our only regret was that we were unable to prolong our stay and make full use of all the possible activities that were offered, including the Spa.
