We visited for two nights to go to the boat show, unfortunately I didn't read the previous reviews, especially about the pub not a restaurant, which I totally agree with.
I must first say, the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful, you could not fault the service, likewise the rooms, we stayed in a Club room, it was very clean, comfortable and worth the stay.
My issue is the decision to change the hotel from a quality 4* hotel into a hotel with bedrooms, and nowhere for residents to sit, relax and enjoy a meal. Instead the open plan bar/restaurant is now a sports bar, which was extremely loud and noisy, filled mainly with an 18/30 clientele watching football on 6 huge TV screens around the room. Diners were given a small area at the rear of the room, but the noise was ridiculous, you couldn't have a conversation, but clearly the corporate decision was to turn it into a sports bar and attract the locals, rather than cater for visitors, especially visitors who wanted a quiet relaxing meal or a drink.
The other issue was rooms at the front of the hotel also had the noise from outside, from youths drinking outside
A shame as the staff were so friendly and the hotel bedrooms were comfortable, but this set up is not for all, and shan't visit again.More
