Description: A very warm welcome to the Butchers Arms. One of the oldest pubs in the Forest of Dean, we have been welcoming locals and visitors alike since 1802. Our menu combines signature 'Butchers' dishes with traditional British favourites, our modern recipes and grills are all prepared by Head Chef Matt Wheeler and his team from the freshest ingredients. Wherever possible we will endeavour to provide produce from local suppliers so you can truly have a taste of Gloucestershire. We pride ourselves in providing good quality food, excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere. All our food is cooked fresh to order, so please allow a little time for service. Tried the Butchers arms having been recommended by a friend and booked for early on a Friday evening.
There was a Gorgeous cosy atmosphere with a log fire crackling away. Service was impeccable throughout - attentive but not over bearing.
Food was fantastic - children’s food was great (nice to have a variety) and grown ups even better- we both went for vegetarian options despite the lure of the grill & the “stacks” and were not disappointed. Puds went in a flash so they must have been good. In general I liked the bustle of the bar - it’s a lovely village pub with food & service done extremely well.

We can’t wait to come back and can’t believe we haven’t been before!

This welcoming pub is a short walk from Clearwell caves. The food is quite 'grown up' and not cheap but worth every penny. It was all well presented and very tasty with generous portions. The staff were friendly and efficient and we didn't have to wait too long for our food or drinks. On a cold day the log burner was very welcome too.

Popped in on a last minute recommendation from the chap at Clearwell Caves and we were most impressed. I got the soup of the day - a quite superb corn chowder with lovely warm bread followed by an excellent steak and kidney pie. Service was friendly and prompt. Beer selection could have been a trifle more varied but not worth knocking a mark off for.

My Husband and I visited The Butchers Arms twice during our recent holiday to the area. We were both very impressed with the quality of food and the fantastic service. The chap who appeared to be the Manager seemed very on the ball and ensured that all of the staff provided an excellent service. We're sometimes a little dubious when a place offers such a vast range on their menu, but this was a truly delightful surprise - all of our food was great. We highly recommend the Sunday Roast - a bargain price for 3 courses! We will definitely be returning and look forward to it.

Stopped here after Puzzlewoods absolutely starving after our walk and were not disappointed.
Didn't expect much we literally just needed somewhere to grab some grub but the place was lovely. Such a cute little pub. The food was amazing, we both got stacks which came with the best chips we've had in a long old time.
Had to make room for pudding too, again both really, really good. This place comes very highly recommended.
