More a 3.5 than a 4 star review

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 06 Aug 2024via mobile
We stayed one night in a queen sized room.
The room itself was big.
The room was in general clean - however there were a couple of niggles mainly with some of the cleaning regime:
- the kettle still had water in it from the previous occupant - it should be emptied after every visitor leaves.
- The kettle stand had coffee stains on it ( again this is a no no and indicates it’s not checked)
- one of the complimentary shampoo bottles had been used albeit only a little bit but it shouldn’t be there - so I guess the cleaning team just didn’t pay close attention .
The actual complimentary shampoos etc are good quality though.
The furniture is shabby chic some pieces were more shabby (sorry) than chic - lots of coffee stains on the tops.

That said the bed was comfortable and the area quiet.
Checkin is in the club house as was very smooth and staff polite.

We didn’t eat at the Club and had breakfast at the near by garden centre.

Lovely location, quiet hotel in peaceful surroundings. Received a warm welcome and a lovely large quiet room with 4 poster bed. Nice restaurants nearby. Breakfast is very nice and great customer service. Ideal romantic weekend getaway, would stay again.

Decent accommodation, and a good breakfast. There were a few niggles but overall we slept well and breakfasted well. The location is very quiet and there is plenty of parking. The A21 is not far away so access is easy, but there is no road noise at the hotel. You sleep in an annexe with thin walls between rooms.

Contact with the hotel beforehand had been rather combative. In particular it was hard work to establish that they don't do any meals after 17:00. I don't know whether is this is 7 days a week -- there are two contradictory statements about it on the booking.com website as I write this, and I was given a third variation over the phone and a fourth by email. (We dined at the Claverton two miles away, which Sedlescombe don't recommend.) Breakfast was adequate and well presented, although some tinned grapefruit segments would have been a useful and affordable supplement -- there is only basic cereal and the hot breakfast and toast or croissants, and orange juice. When the boss has a day off you get two conflicting pop music channels blaring in the breakfast room, one from the admin area and a different one where the groundsmen are taking their breakfast adjacent. While the cat's away.

To check in you go in through a door prominently marked NO ENTRY and you get to a notice stating "Hotel Check In Here". (We didn't know this and checked in at the wrong desk, having obeyed the No Entry sign.)

We had a large bedroom, with two easy chairs but no writing table, so we ended up with our laptops on our, er, laps and the mouse on the arm of the chair. A small table and also a small fridge would have been welcome additions. Also there was no bottle of water in the room, but hey, there was tapwater in the tap. We bought survival supplies in Sainsbury's.

Room tip: The signage off the A21 as you arrive is concealed -- be ready or you may overshoot.

Just got back from a long golf weekend with friends from a long established golf society. From minute one, the lovely staff made us feel very welcome & couldn’t do enough for us. Breakfast, Lunchtime & dinner menus offered a great selection & the quality & service was excellent. Sam & the team, did a terrific job. Not one person in our big group had anything but praise for the service.
The rooms are clean & tidy. A little dated & could do with a proper shower for golfers, but you couldn’t complain. The course was quite challenging with ditches on every hole & lots of blind shots but was a good test. Greens & tees needed a bit of attention but the greens putted well. I would certainly recommend this venue to golfers & non golfers who are after a very good value for money experience.

On a recent visit my wife and I booked a room with en suite bathroom*.
The staff were welcoming. Our room was spacious with a large comfortable bed.
The restaurant food and service were good. However, during warm weather, our stay was spoilt because the the bath/shower mixer tap did not work and was near to falling of its mounting. We telephoned reception to report this but there was no reply. Later when we spoke to the manager we were told that the rooms were not advertised as having a shower facility and he made no apology. Be advise, if you expect en suite* to feature a good shower, do not book this hotel.

Room tip: Be advised…Check out that en suit bathroom has a working shower facility. You will not get an apology if it is not working.

I am so glad we found this place this weekend for a well needed escape from scorching hot London. We had a king room which was gorgeous looking out to the golf course with a very comfortable bed and hugely appreciated air con!! The hotel staff are all delightful and the breakfast was delicious. My partner played golf too which he thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.
