“MAGICAL AGAIN”
Reviewed 20 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Another lovely stay here in this delightful cottage, feels so homely, close to many lovely beaches, Sea Palling, Winterton and Hemsby.
Have 3 Labradors so plenty of walking to tire them out, then to go back and relax in front of the beautiful open fire. Our second stay this year and will be back to spend Christmas here.
People so friendly and area so very clean, even visited the lovely Church next to the Cottage. Highly recommended to all

“Truly a gem of a cottage!”
Reviewed 6 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Albion Cottage certainly is a unique place full of Victorian charm but with all the advantages of modern day living. Add to that the setting on the coast in the village of Happisburgh, the peace and quiet, and the places of interest to visit locally, and further afield, then you have the recipe for a perfect holiday retreat.
The owners Liz and Robert, who are very friendly and approachable, seemed to have thought of everything and are readily available should any problems arise. Information about the cottage, appliances and suggested places to visit are left in folders ... along with so much more! The cottage was lovely and cosy with efficient central heating if needed although one had the option to use an open fire and a 'log' burner.
For us, a special treat was a visit to nearby Horsey Wind Pump (NT) and from there a walk out to see the large colony of seals lying on the beach. Overall, we had a lovely time and would not hesitate to recommend Albion Cottage.

So glad you liked Albion Cottage. We have cycled from Happisburgh to Horsey, a lovely flat route, and can recommend stoping off at Waxham Barns for a look round and refreshment. You can also sail to Horsey by hiring a day boat from Potter Heigham which takes about 1.5 hours each way

“Good experience but had problems”

The week I was there the owners were away, but a family member was in the house to help if there were any problems (a mother in law) .
To start with the good. Payment getting to and getting from and entering the house was very easy. The house is imaculate very clean, the bed linen, surfaces, floors and so forth. The garden in the front and the back is stunning somebody works very hard to maintain the garden. The house is decorated beautifully, the furniture and ornaments are delightful. The owner of the house have taken some time to think about what people need on a self catering holiday and those little things you forget, the house had everything in it so you can pack your bags and know that the basics are in the cottage very kind thinking from the owners, also had milk and two scones with clotted cream and jam were there on arrival again lovely thought.

The not so good points. The introduction leaflet had spelling mistakes, now I know this sounds picky and I am not saying I'm perfect, far from it but to my next point. The cottage advertises two working fireplaces, the one in the dining room worked after some pulling at the handle.
I lit a fire in the living room (as at the beginning of the week the weather wasn't too good) and bellows of smoke poured out from the fireplace, which then I referred back to the leaflet to see whether I did something wrong, but the leaflet was confusing because of the spelling mistakes. So I think that the leaflet needs to be rewritten more clearly. So for three days and to really the end of my week long stay the room stank of smoke, so it was hard for me to sit in the living room.
The front door key did not work, whether I waited for a click pushed up or down it would not shut, I work in a 18 century house and I know all about annoying keys, and fireplaces for that matter. But thankfully there was a second door that had a key that I could close, but I worked out that if I climbed through the living room window ,that it would close from the outside, annoying and really again needs to be addressed. I read the reviews on tripadvisor before I decided to buy, one person stated that the bed was comfortable, now I know this is a personal preference but the double bed was a hard bed it was very uncomfortable, a comfortable bed in my view is medium soft ,the single bed again was softer but a cheap mattress again uncomfortable so I didn't sleep well at all. The last and final problem was hot water there was none, I shower maybe once/twice a day, the water was not even tepid so again uncomfortable to shower in and also no hot water to do the washing up in, so I ended up boiling up the kettle to wash up.
All in all despite the problems, I enjoyed my stay.

Firstly, we would like to apologise for our guest's less than perfect stay and we thank her for all her really useful feedback. Unfortunately this review was the first we had heard of any of these issues and so we never had the opportunity to put any of them right at the time (for instance, the hot water could have been sorted in minutes, had we known). We have contacted the guest to apologise directly and thank her for all her very positive comments.

“Lovely place”
Reviewed 7 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

What a lovely place this is! In appearance, it's like something from several decades ago, with pictures and ornaments and mad old-style wallpaper. But it is fitted with all mod-cons. Wifi which works! Couple of TVs. Modern kitchen appliances which all work. It was hot when we stayed, but I have no doubt the heating would work fine as well!

Really beautiful setting on a quiet road next to the church. Parking no problem. It's about a 10 minute walk to the beach rampway. Hill House pub is very close (there's a short alleyway to the right as you look at the church - it is maybe 50 yards along there). Nice pub, good beer, decent pub grub. Not a tourist pub - and that's meant in the best possible way. Tourists are very welcome, but it is a proper pub for the locals. This is a good thing!

If you do come, there is just one little shop in the village and no cashpoint machine, so be a little bit prepared. There is a Tesco at Stalham, and that's where we stocked up on essentials. The local shop does have some stuff in emergencies.

The cottage itself is great, would fully recommend it (might want to think twice if with small kids, though, because there's a heck of a lot of potentially breakable stuff in there!). It felt like home for the weekend we were there, and that's a real compliment!

Thank you for the helpful review and glad you liked it. The local shop is also a Post Office so most British banks allow you to get cash there but only during opening hours.

“chocolate box lid cottage”

You will not be dissapointed with this gem, you can see the church from the front bedroom window,it's only 20 yards away, the local pub is 2 minutes round the corner (great food)
Liz has made the cottage a Victorian delight but with all mod cons wood burning stoves are available with lots of fuel in the storage bin
You can climb the church steeple on certain Sundays check when you arrive, papers from the little village shop but only if you pre order
Great cottage Thank you Liz

So glad you had a good time. The views from the church tower are well worth the clime and you might find us on duty as we volunteer there. Visit the village website or Albion Cottage Facebook page for opening times
