We stayed at Gig House with our dog for a long weekend. We loved it - the beaches were beautiful and we walked for miles. The local pub - The Hill House, was friendly and the food was lovely, especially the vegetarian menu.
The house is immaculately clean and had everything you need for a restful break.
The cream tea awaiting us on arrival was a lovely touch and very much appreciated!!
If you get a clear night make sure you get out and enjoy the stars - there is little light pollution there and the sky is amazing . The best place is from the beautiful 14th century church opposite the house. The residents didn't seem to mind us sitting up on the hill with them enjoying the night sky!!
We will definitely be back .
What a lovely week we've just had at the gig house!! It was just an amazing little cottage and Liz has thought of everything! We arrived to home made scones with clotted cream and home made jam which were delicious! The location is spot on if you just want to get away from it all! The local pub serves it's own ales and you can get a take home pack too! So if you fancied costing up in front of the wood burner and relaxing definitely the place to be!! We will be coming back! ;)
Very welcoming hosts including home made scones on arrival. Very well kitted out with everything you could need on a break away. Lovely surroundings and excellent local pubs. Would definitely recommend. Especially given what good value the property is.
We made our third visit to the gig house in Aug 2014. The village location is superb as you have a good beach within ten minutes walk, the house is down a quiet lane which guarentees peace and quiet.
Transport links to local attractions are good with the coastal road taking you to Cromer in 30 minutes and Gt Yarmouth in 40 mins. the broads are within 20 minutes. There are some superb beaches within ten minutes drive (sea palling is our favourite) and a short walk along the beach you are on your own except for the grey seal population. A car is essential though.
Some good local restaurants and pubs serving local food, again car essential as the pub in the village is ok for a pint but not for a romantic meal out. you can't beat fish and chips on the sea front though!
The house itself is lovely and has everything you need for a week away. You get homemade scones on arrival, lovely touch. The owner Liz is lovely and she is there if needed, but we have had no problems in our visits.
tip - great holiday for taking your dog on.
Part of me doesn't want to review Gig House as it is so lovely we want to keep it to ourselves! My partner, our Westie and I have spent three extremely enjoyable visits at the cottage and plan to go back again. Straight away we are back to our routine of an early morning walk down to the beach and I take yet another dozen pictures of the lighthouse from different angles to add to my collection. It is such a good base for travel to other beaches in the area, and the village pub is very handy when we don't want to go far at night. We usually end up in the pub playing a game by the fire - scrabble is a favourite - and it's dog friendly too.
