This hotel is easily reached from the major routes and is a large, sprawling, partly Edwardian stately pile. Our rooms were upstairs in an older part of the building and although accessed by dour passages and stairs, were quite nice; clean, spacious and with good bathroom facilities.
A decent log and coal fire was expertly prepared and lit for early evening around which were arranged some comfortable furniture; surprisingly, despite the hotel being quite busy we had no problem getting settled around the fire.
There is a decent bar area and a large restaurant where we were seated a little too near a brightly lit and busy walkway from the kitchen. The food however was decent for the evening meal and the breakfast was very good being mainly arranged buffet style.
The hotel features an extensive spa area which we didn't indulge in on this occasion.
Overall we had a pleasant overnight break which was decent value.More
