“Felt at home instantly”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Hortensia is a lovely cottage and just what we were looking for. It is situated in the small yet characterful village of Siran and within driving distance of lots of interesting and beautiful places in Aude and Herault. The cottage itself was very clean, and we had everything we needed; from kitchenware and an ironing board to a stone barbecue and comfy chairs on the patio. We felt very much at home there despite being there for only a week, and it was perfect for our two and a half year old daughter.

“What a fabulous house!”

This house is the most homely holiday let we have ever stayed in (and we have stayed in quite a few). It is a great location for sightseeing. Having been in the area before, we were aware of the local attractions and so played "guide" to our friends. Carcassonne, Gruissan (which has a fabulous market on a Saturday) and Narbonne are great places to visit, as are all the small villages in the location, particularly Minerve, Caunes Minervois We visited Albi too, which is a bit of a distance, but well worth it to see the cathedral of St Cecile. Apparently Barcelona is within traveling distance, but we were unable to book a room there, so didn't attempt the drive. Just mentioning this, because had we booked a room there beforehand we would certainly have made the trip. They also have a wonderful English girl who lives in the locality, who calls round to make sure you are ok, and a great elderly French neighbour (Francoise) who doesn't speak a word of English, but is hugely entertaining. All in all a great holiday. Thank you for sharing your home Kevin!

“Quiet and charming cottage”
Reviewed 16 October 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Hortensia Cottage is a charming rural retreat. The owner has quite obviously taken the time to update facilities at the cottage. The bathrooms and kitchen are nicely equipped and tastefully decorated, whilst the living space and bedrooms have been restored and decorated in sympathy with the age and setting of the property.

We managed to have great weather in the low to mid 20's, with plenty of sunshine, just right for sight seeing, and there is plenty of that to do. You will need a car to get the most from your exploring, as the whole region is full of villages that seem to have been lost in time.

The calm of the cottage and general pace of life of the region meant we enjoyed leisurely breakfasts and evening meals with one or two afternoons on the front patio reading or playing board games.

We would definitely stay again.

“Peaceful Haven”
Reviewed 19 August 2012 for a stay in June 2012

Hortensia Cottage is a beautiful, 3 storied town house in an immaculate, ancient village. The cottage is well located near to the centre of this quiet little place, with good on-street parking. Siran can provide all basic requirements having its own bakery and small grocer's shop and the larger supermarkets are about 20mins away. If you're a fan of history, this area won't disappoint being the seat of the Cathar wars and defences. With rivers to swim in and castles to climb to it is a place for all the family or (like us) for couples to relax and spend time eating in local cafes/restaurants and visiting the many local wine producers!!!
Hortensia is well designed and has everything you could want - a real home from home. Booking was straight forward and very honest! Flights to Carcassonne land you approx 1hr away from Siran, an easy drive. We loved every second of visiting the area and staying at Hortensia. A beautiful, beautiful place.
