We booked & paid for 2 nights but struggled to sleep through first night. On arrival the dusty old window curtains look like a prop from a 50s movie set. The photos on the website were carefully taken to show what could be...but what doesn't provide. The yard was kind of nice. The steep narrow angled driveway entrance awkward so best not try that at night. In all it's a nice retirement home for a couple with a DIY approach to renovate but for a romantic couple or a family holiday getaway, maybe look at others as for the cost one can do better.
Firstly, I would like to point out that I have a particular way of grading properties. If a property gives themselves, or is given a 4 star rating, they are either attempting to work their way to a 5 star or they are just a glorified 3 star.
We stayed at "The Chalet" cottage as a part of a weekend away for a friends wedding. The overall experience wasn't bad, but there were a lot of areas for improvement.
Checking in was strange. We knew which room we had been assigned, but with no clear signage on the property to point you in the direction of a reception, you are left to wonder around until you make your way to the cottage and find the keys in the door. Sometimes that kind of privacy is ok, and I do understand why things were done this way.
My immediate reaction to the property was that it was great! Clean, tidy and had everything that was needed. Further inspection found that this particular cottage was billed to fit 6 people, but I would not recommend any more than 4-5. The kitchen was a good size and well equipped. The strange points were having fly screens on the front door, but not on the 2 massive doors that open onto the deck. There was WiFi, but not reliable enough to use for any more than a few minutes at a time.
A few downsides were that there was no water in the fridge (with most people driving long distances and being that it was 34*C, that was a let down). There were cobwebs in the ceiling lights in the lounge room, the sofa was stained, there was a strange smell near the stairs, the shower temperature was very temperamental and there was no relief from the heat in the form of airconditioning (something I have never witnessed in 4 star accommodation)
The grounds are massive and very well kept. each cottage has privacy from the next and had we not been a part of a very large group, would have found it easy not to mingle with anyone else staying. There were a few encounters with local wildlife, but I can't put that down to a negative because you can't exactly control those things.
I would recommend this for a small family, and hopefully they can make a few improvements to truly make these live up to a 4 star rating.
Great for a break from the rat race. Very comfortable with bucolic views, fireplace and everything you need to self cater. Do not expect luxury - do expect that there is generous fitout and everything is in good working order. Stunning country walks with views, local markets and 10 mins from the hubub of Maleny. What more could you ask for?
Stayed here over 2 nights for a family wedding. This chalet sleeps 6 but with one bathroom/separate toilet, I think it would be challenging with a full house. Luckily we only had 4 people. The dining table only has 4 chairs however so in winter, it may be troublesome squeezing the other 2 in on outdoor chairs.
We had issues with the oven as the door does not close completely, so the oven is never at your desired temperature. Microwave turn table was on and off also. Some salt, pepper and cooking oil would have been handy too. We had to buy these at a premium at the local IGA.
The upstairs bed frames had loose bed end post knobs. Perhaps this could be fixed again?
My major issue was only having one power point access in the upstairs rooms. As we were in the double bedroom, the powerpoint was right in the middle, under the bed. It is more easy to access it in the twin bedroom, behind the glass table. So we had to crawl under to find one free powerpoint to charge our phones. Perhaps add an extra long power board in future? We also noticed it was quite dusty along the walls behind the bed.
On the contrary, I really appreciated electric blankets in our upstairs double room. Made a huge difference when trying to get to sleep on a cold winters night. The property was easy to find and plenty of space in the yard to do whatever you like.
We had a lovely holiday in and around Maleny and Montville but we were a bit disappointed with the quality of the accommodation. Dishes in the cupboard were dirty, no basic salt and pepper, filthy floors especially underneath sofas and tables. Bedside lamps were not all working. However the hosts were friendly and the bottle of red wine was a lovely idea on arrival.
