We really enjoyed staying at CStay. Anton was very welcoming and treated us as individuals. It was almost like catching up with an old friend. Having a fridge and sink in our room was fantastic. We usually camp so having a room was fantastic! It saved us having to lug all our camping gear across to the island. It is a very short walk to the beach where we enjoyed a lovely late afternoon swim and we walked to Picnic Bay from Nelly Bay a couple of times. It might be 5 km but it is a lovely walk along the beach front and past some big boulders. We enjoyed the tropical plants in the garden and the birds that visited. The kitchen is not huge but it was a good opportunity to interact with the few other guests that were there. The pool looked inviting but I didn't have time to use it. There is so much to do on Magnetic Island!

It makes me very happy to learn that you enjoyed your visit to Magnetic Island and CStay so much! You are right - it is not a big island and the walk to Nelly bay only takes 45 minutes along the beach front. We now have a small grocery store in Picnic Bay!

Great hostel within walking distance from Picnic Bay. Only 15 minutes by bus from the ferry terminal and the bus stops right outside the hostel. Cooking facilities and bathrooms are really nice. Bedrooms are comfortable and the private rooms are reasonably priced. The owner is extremely helpful and told us all the top spots so we could get the most out of our short stay on the island. Would highly recommend this place if you want somewhere to relax and get a break from the busier backpacker hostels.

My friend and I stayed at Cstay for 2 nights when visiting Magnetic. It is a small, privately run hostel and it's clear on arrival that Anton, the owner, takes great pride in his accommodation. He greeted us and explained many of the attractions on the island. His local knowledge is fab. Arriving in the late afternoon we were able to walk to a look out that evening for sunset.

Cstay is slightly out of the way but that was perfect for us. It is necessary to get a bus to it (2 bus stops very close) but when a hop on / hop off ticket is only $7 for unlimited days use that's not a problem. It was a quieter hostel and some of the guests seem to be staying long term or be returning guests showing just how welcoming Anton is. It's perfect for older or quieter travellers.

The bedrooms were simple but perfectly clean and a good size. We stayed in a twin room which also had its own fridge and sink. The bathrooms looked to be newly renovated and were always available for use - never had to wait. The kitchen was well equipped and clean. A little tip though - there are no supermarkets near the accommodation so go to the one across from the ferry terminal before getting the bus down or bring food to the island with you. There were laundry facilities on site.

Highly recommend this lovely little place.

Apologies for this very belated response to a very well detailed review and especially for your kind words. Good news though is the recent opening of a small Mom-and-Pop grocery store (called The Village Pantry) at the end of the mall! It does close at 6pm so make sure you get there in good time or you will need to go to Nelly bay where the closing time is 8:30 pm. We also had the pleasure of a new cafe / bar open its doors at the end of the mall!

....Well, I can - the light switch was not near the door, it was over the other side of the room which was a bit weird. Otherwise, the place was spotless, comfortable, very peaceful, friendly.
The communal kitchen was well-equipped and immaculate.
Picnic Bay is not as busy and Nelly or Horseshoe Bay but is a nice quiet alternative.
If I hadn't been on a timescale, I could have easily chilled here for a few days.

True - it is an older building from the early eighties and the electricals were installed for engineering reasons I would guess. It is, however, good to hear that you enjoyed the peace and quiet of picnic bay.

After spending the weekend prior in Magnetic Island at base hostel, we loved the island so much we decided to return for the following weekend! This time we booked two nights in a twin share at Cstay as it was actually cheaper than two beds in a dorm at the hostel.

We were very happy with our decision, and ended up extending our stay another night as we were enjoying the friendly and casual atmosphere in Cstay from both the owners and other guests! As well as having a ball fishing the picnic bay jetty every day ... we caught GT's , mackerel, golden trevally , queenfish , tarpon, barramundi , finger mark and more !

Cstay is close to the pub , jetty and beach , awesome quiet little area , great place for a getaway for sure . Rooms were comfortable , pool was refreshing , and the kitchen was awesome to use , fully stocked and modern... much better than fighting over who gets to use The few pots and pans they have at the hostel !

All in all, great spot for a stay , and only a 15 minute walk to the hostel if you're looking for a bit more of a night out .

Thanks Anton for a great stay !

Now that is the nicest review I had seen and its speaks of exactly what makes magnetic Island a little special! Thank you, also, for your kind words and all the details of what your experience. We would have loved to share some of your pictures if you took any! If ever you are around this neck of the woods again you are most welcome to come say hi!.
