“Pure Paradise”
Reviewed 6 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin. The creek and waterfall were amazing. Coming from Sydney we were looking for a place to just take in some peace, and we found you. We only booked 2 nights initially but on our first night there we realised we wanted longer, but we had already had other accomodations booked for the next 5 days. Lucky for us, the cabin was available again for us to go back for another 2 nights before heading home. We will base our Tropical North Queensland trips around staying here in the future.

“Bit of heaven from which you can base your Rainforest visit”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

“There’s nothing like waking up in the rainforest…and I know a place where you go to sleep and wake up with the sound of the creek”, was the opinion/advice that tipped the decision on whether to stay in Cairns and visit the rainforest as a day trip tour or find a place to stay closer to the rainforest. We were able to book the Daintree Cascades cottage via e-mail and we were not disappointed with our choice. The cottage provided a relaxing, beautiful, comfortable base from which we experienced the Cape Tribulation section of the Rainforest. (e.g. Daintree Discovery Center, walk on Cow Bay beach to see the intricate designs of sand balls made by the bubbler crabs, taste exotic fruits at Cape Trib Exotic Fruit Farm).

Daintree Cascades’ property buts up against the National Park Forest. James and Ali, the owners, have created a little bit of heaven in the rainforest, where you can sit quietly and listen to the birds, watch the butterflies flutter by, if you are lucky might see a little critters scurry by and where there is NO light pollution at night. We had our breakfast at the little outdoor café table overlooking the creek. James has designed the cottage to allow a lot of the natural sun light to enter so you rarely had to turn on the lights, which is a good thing as a lot of this area is “off the grid” so they generate their own electricity. But there was plenty of electricity for us and the cottage is outfitted with all the necessities for a very comfortable enjoyable stay.

Cell phone and internet service is nonexistent or rare in this area so if you, like me, use the internet (e.g. Tripadvisor) to get information/recommendations to decide on things to do, you might want to do as much of your investigate before you loose connection. But if you didn’t, no worries; there was a lot of tourist brochures at the Cottage, there are places and people to help you get information, and James has a phone at the cottage that you could use for local calls so you could call to get information or make reservations. But one important thing you want to have clear is directions to the Cottage. The information I got from Google Maps was not at the right zoom level so I thought Stonewood road came right off Cape Tribulation Road and when we could not find it, we found that not a lot of people knew where Stonewood road was. Fortunately there was a pay phone at the bottle shop in Cape Tribulation to call James for directions. The ferry across the Daintree River has a fee and there are no large supermarkets (there are small little markets) on the Cape Tribulation side so if you plan to do a lot of cooking and want specific things, you might want to shop before crossing the river. There are nice restaurants nearby (e.g. On the Turps) if you want to eat out.

The decision to stay in the Daintree Cascades to see the rainforest was the right decision for us. But if you like a lot of activity and will miss the cell phone or internet, you might want to do a day trip.

“Beautiful”

Amazing little cottage with your own creek! It's very difficult to get access to the daintree rainforest as it is all privately owned. But if you stay here you can put on your walking boots and head upstream to some remote and beautiful parts of the Daintree that very few others will ever get the opportunity to see. Ali is an amazing host. The cottage has all the comforts of home and a little extra. PS Turn the lights off at night and you will be visited by an array of forest animals.

“peaceful ,relaxing and private, right in the middle of the rainforest.”

Four us stayed in the cottage in Jan, the cottage was lovely, plenty of room, self contained, very clean and
suprisingly cool at night. Very private, we had our own rockpool in a little river, glorious views, outdoor table, hammock, and a little table and chairs overlooking the river. Luckily the weather was perfect, one night it rained which is beautiful in the daintree, fish and an eel in the river, swam , at night the resident bandicoot which we fed, lizards, butterflies etc.
Was just perfect and will come again. A perfect view of the stars as well. The only thing i would suggest is a sign on turpentine road to indicate the direction of the cottages. Photos do not do this place justice.

“Traquility embodied - Heaven on Earth - Please just abandon me here!”
Reviewed 25 November 2012 for a stay in November 2012

This place was fabulous. You were within an easy drive of all supplies, the beaches for romantic strolls or family games, cafes, bars and grocery stores and yet you felt that you were the only ones there. The secret was in the way the house is set into the rainforest. It has been really well thought out.

We stayed in the rainforest and there was a couple in the cottage but it was nothing like being in a holiday house. It was private and extremely well equiped making it feel like your own home. There were lots of lovely features including a really quirky wardrobe upstairs. There were 5 of us and plenty of room for us all to have space to do different activites.

My only negative comment is MY short sightedness in only booking 2 nights. Next time I think I will escape there for 2 weeks. I loved it. Romantic setting, tranquil setting. Whatever you are booking the accomodation for - just go for it, this place is the bees knees!
