Three of us went for a late carvery since our local was very poor last time we went. Refurbishments have been going on at the King's Head for many months and they always look busy on Sunday afternoons (many cars in car park), so we were keen to visit.
We were very impressed with the carvery: a decent portion of 3 different meats and help yourself to as much veg as you like. Oh, and pigs in blankets, which our local charges for (we don't get them as they're never great, anywhere..). The cauliflower cheese was really good and very cheesy (bordering on a little too cheesy), the Yorkshires were fine, (and not some huge, weirdly-shaped things!) and all the veg was cooked perfectly. The stuffing balls were very odd, and I believe they are responsible for me being thirsty all through the night.
Another nice touch we liked was a little dish of sauces on our table: the apple, cranberry and mustard were 'normal', possibly from a jar. However the horseradish was amazing! Nice and fiery.
We called/booked before arriving, to check if carvery available still. They said 6pm would be the very latest. However others came in after us and went for carvery: I suppose they know it will last till 6pm or they'll compensate somehow, but they'll leave it out until it's gone..?
Our young waitress was a bit on the surly side, but not rude. Just not friendly. She did her job fine. Maybe she'd had some bad news or something..
All-in-all a very satisfactory visit and we will be 'carvering' there again some time.
