Description: The Kings Head is a friendly family run pub, just on the outskirts of Hailsham, East Sussex. Serving an extensive British menu, head chef Louisa Weaver has put seasonality at the heart of her cooking. Louisa is particularly passionate about sourcing locally produced ingredients because of the flavour it brings to her dishes. The bar stocks a good selection of beers on tap, and a wide range of wines to suite almost ever palate.

We visited the pub on Christmas Eve as a family gathering having not visited for a number of years. I had steak pie with chips and veg and the meat was tender and plentiful. Hubbie had the duck which he enjoyed. There is a kids menu with main and pudding and the pudding in particular is very generous. The menu is usual pub grub but prices are reasonable.

Not just 1 or 2 veggie options but a whole A4 sheet of them. I opted for burger and chips. Double veggie burger with home made chips coleslaw and a pot of burger relish. It was great.
We were lucky to get the last table so would recommend booking.
Mums burger the 8oz beef was huge. Too much for her.
Can't wait to return.

Three of us went for a late carvery since our local was very poor last time we went. Refurbishments have been going on at the King's Head for many months and they always look busy on Sunday afternoons (many cars in car park), so we were keen to visit.
We were very impressed with the carvery: a decent portion of 3 different meats and help yourself to as much veg as you like. Oh, and pigs in blankets, which our local charges for (we don't get them as they're never great, anywhere..). The cauliflower cheese was really good and very cheesy (bordering on a little too cheesy), the Yorkshires were fine, (and not some huge, weirdly-shaped things!) and all the veg was cooked perfectly. The stuffing balls were very odd, and I believe they are responsible for me being thirsty all through the night.
Another nice touch we liked was a little dish of sauces on our table: the apple, cranberry and mustard were 'normal', possibly from a jar. However the horseradish was amazing! Nice and fiery.
We called/booked before arriving, to check if carvery available still. They said 6pm would be the very latest. However others came in after us and went for carvery: I suppose they know it will last till 6pm or they'll compensate somehow, but they'll leave it out until it's gone..?
Our young waitress was a bit on the surly side, but not rude. Just not friendly. She did her job fine. Maybe she'd had some bad news or something..
All-in-all a very satisfactory visit and we will be 'carvering' there again some time.

After a car breakdown, we came here for overnight stop, so we were not prepared for this. One lovely lady, who was one of the cooks and whose name I cannot remember, lent us her iphone charger for the time we were there. Liz was very helpful booking us in and getting us the right room, which was a really nice one. The next day Anita cooked us a superb full English and Vicky phoned through and booked us a taxi to get to our car in time for RAC's arrival. They really couldn't do enough for us and so friendly. What more could you want? And very reasonable price for overnight stay.
