Oh dear, what’s happened to this place. The yew tree has always been on the map for one single reason - the food, exceptional, large portions, massive salad collection on the plate and a menu so fresh it was never written down except for a blackboard.
Well those days are over, the pubs been taken over and now had a printed plasticky menu, so old it had a sticker on it to correct the prices. The food was nothing remarkable at all, something you would find at an airport hotel kinda thing. They’ve managed to retain the manager, god knows how because he must be watching in horror. They’ve started to refurb and tbh it was needed, but to change the menu was sheer stupidity. The new colour is blue, who on earth thought blue for a country pub would be a good idea, it looks nice but it’s totally out of keeping with the pubs identity. The decorative change would be acceptable has they not messed with the menu. I can’t imagine they even have a chef any longer as it looks like frozen, oven cooked on demand.
They’ve employed some kids to staff the place and this is nothing new, however there’s a young lad that seem cocky and obnoxious, a complete contrast to the old staff. They’ve turned a countryside pub into an expensive weather-spoons and the thing about that is, people don’t travel to the middle of nowhere for a weather-spoons. It took many years to make this a popular pub, it would be very foolish to lose that reputation in a few years. Ditch that tacky menu and hire a chef would be my advice before it’s too late for the books
