We have just spent a few days at Overdale Cottage and it was simply perfect. A gorgeous cottage and very comfortable. Wonderful views and walks from the door. The village is beautiful and everyone is very friendly. We have stayed at many cottages but this is simply a gem. We hope to return later in 2015 in warmer weather and not 6" of snow although saying that - it made the views even more spectacular. We would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a really lovely place to stay and walking.

“Beautiful cosy cottage”
Reviewed 31 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

We stayed at Overdale cottage for a weekend just before Christmas and it was exactly what we wanted.

Sue and Phil, the owners, had everything very well organised before we arrived and were excellent at keeping in touch to let me know what to expect and I found booking very easy.

The cottage is the right size for two but with a surprisingly spacious kitchen and lounge and in the evenings the wood burning fire was wonderful (but it took us a few attempts to work it out). It's pleasantly furnished and Phil and Sue had provided useful things like salt, pepper, vinegar, washing up bits, kitchen roll etc as well as a all the kinds of pots and pans that we found ourselves needing for the stay. The one thing they do ask you to provide yourselves is towels but I didn't consider this a problem.

The location was perfect for us as we had a lovely view out the window and we could just walk straight down the path from the cottage door to the start of a whole load of different walks. Phil and Sue had been excellent in this regard having provided various local walking books and a list of their own suggestions with a guide to the town/area. The cottage is tucked away from the main road so rather than driving to the door you have a walk of about 100m down some steep cobbles but if you're holidaying to the peak district this isn't likely to be an off-putting factor.

The village of Youlgreave itself is a traditional peak district village with lots of history but two shops that close at 12 on a Saturday and wouldn't even consider opening on a Sunday. As such we found ourselves doing a last minute food shop in Bakewell but that was only a 15 minute drive away. We had a lovely meal at one of the village pubs (The Farmyard Inn) and would also recommend popping by there.

Overall it's a lovely cottage for two if you want a walking getaway in a quaint peak district village. The only reasons to avoid it would be if you are adverse to bringing your own towels, if you want to watch lots of films online while you are there (they ask you to be moderate with internet usage), or if you are unable to cope with steep cobbles to the house. We'd definitely go back next year.

We've just got back from the 2nd time of staying here. The cottage is fantastic with all the facilities you could want. With picturesque views and some fantastic walks from the door, what more could you want?

The log burner is brilliant on those cold December nights.

The Farmyard Inn is warm and welcoming. Make sure you get a table by the open fire l.

What a beautiful location and a superb little cottage. Everything you could need for a country side break. Right on the door step of the river Bradford. Ourselves and the dogs had an amazing time and would suggest this place to anyone. Be prepared for the hills.
