We had a really nice meal at the Lamplight on a Saturday evening, the menu is good standard, the restaurant setting and atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend to any one in the Ashbourne area

Found this restaurant on trip advisor as we hadn't visited Ashbourne before. Don't let the size fool you, this small restaurant offers first class service and food. There was a really good selection of vegetarian dishes, and the presentation of the food was first class. The atmosphere and decor was really lovely. It offered really good value for money and we will certainly sat there again if we are in Derbyshire.
My only advice try and get a window seat, so you can look over the square.

We enjoyed a delicious three course meal from the set menu. All three courses were well prepared and beautifully presented, and the price was more than reasonable.

We would happily recommend the Lamplight Restaurant to anyone staying in the lovely little town of Ashbourne (pity about all the lorries!).

On vacation nearby, we visited Lamplight on the strength of previous reviews. It didn’t disappoint.
A quaint, beamed and ‘lamp lit’ 600 year old building, the owner served us with charm and efficiency, and the food was terrific.

We had our two children ages 9 and 11 with us, and were happy to let them select their choice from the main menu as we are not fans of so called ‘children’s menus’.

Our daughter chose the chilli prawns to start with, followed by the tomato, mozzarella and basil tart with dauphinoise potatoes, and our son chose the poached chicken with pesto on a bed of yummy lardons and lentils, then Crepe Suzette for dessert.

We can vouch for the French onion soup, Steak au Poivre and the lamb on a Parmesan risotto...sounds odd, but was wonderful; the Apple crumble/Creme brulee and the fruit filled brandy snap basket were lovely too.

Reasonably priced we thought for the quality, this is interesting, beautifully presented, perfectly seasoned, delightful food in a charming setting.
