“Lovely place”

We had a great week here and were very happy with the modern fixtures and fittings. Staveley is a brilliant base with nice places to eat and drink at (Hawkshead just up the road being my favourite). Parking was very easy, and we liked the bike storage.

Would have been a surefire 5-star review but we did get sporadic early morning noise from the light industrial units just behind the property (loading/unloading lorries) which helped us get out of the house on time for our hikes - most mornings it was light noise and not a problem but on Monday they were going for it from before 7am.

“Excellent Accommodation & Location”
Reviewed 26 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Stayed here with my family, parents and teenage daughter and her friend. You walk into the sitting room through to a kitchen area. On your left is a corridor which takes you to the sauna and a toilet with a walk in shower. Upstairs is 3 rooms with which had enough room for us all to store or clothes either in drawers or in wardrobes. Upstairs also had a shower room and toilet which was ideal for everyone.

There is a washing machine and outside the main door is a walk in drying area. There is also room for bikes if you enjoy a day or two out cycling. Space for 3 cars and an area at the front with patio doors to sit at.

You also get free wifi and netflick. Mobile phone coverage was a bit of a problem as most of our phones reverted to emergency calls only so no coverage in the area.

The accommodation was spotless and it included a bath towel for everyone but only 2 hand towels (one for each toilet). It was walking distance 5 minutes to a newsagents or spar. We also had a chippy one night which is 2mins walk from the house.

To get to Windermere you are 10 mins in the car and also 10mins the opposite direction to Kendal. Kendal has a larger supermarket to buy in your weekly shopping if required.

All in all a super base to explore the lake district.

I would certainly recommend and we will be booking again in the future for sure.

Would recommend the Watermill pub in the next village called Ings. You can also take in your dog. The food was lovely and recommended to us by one of the locals. All the locals are very friendly. Just to the side or behind the house you will find a gated area where you can take your dog.

Staveley is flat to walk in so is ideal if you cannot walk far or up hills.

Thanks for a wonderful break.

After having stayed in all of Staveley's B&B's ,pubs and 3 previous holiday cottages this is the one we would not hesitate to return to.It is finished to a very high standard, has fabulous extras ( Sauna, smart tv,netflix) and all this in the lively village with great walks direct from the Wheelhouse.
Don't miss out on Starlys,The Beer Hall,More,Wilfs,The Eagle & Child and now Lucy's Dine With A Difference and then return to the comfort of the Wheelhouse.
We are already planning our walks for our next visit !!

The Wheelhouse is an excellent holiday cottage. Everything is fresh, clean and high spec. Couldn't ask for more! As a base for a walking holiday, it's perfect, with loads of walks in the area.

“what a fabulous find!”
Reviewed 22 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

One particular thing I would recommend to anyone, especially with an over 60s free bus pass, is to take advantage of the very impressive bus service from Staveley. Although we enjoyed some really lovely walks directly from the Wheel House itself, we were able to thoroughly enjoy bus rides through to Ambleside, Grassmere and Keswick from which we also enjoyed some delightful walks. The bus ride itself ,especially from the upper deak was in itself fabulous, but then to be able enjoy the other wonderful walks from other areas of the the Lakes was a real bonus. Staveley and in particular the Wheel house is the perfect base to spend a decent length of time, not just a few days. We had a really special holiday. One definitely to be remembered for a long time to come!
