Owner description: Beautiful Mediaeval Church
Reviewed 31 December 2017 via mobile

The Priory’s History goes back to the year 1189, but there is a lot of interesting history as to how it was damaged and additional parts built. We visited on the day they were starting to put Up Christmas decorations, unfortunately we did not see the final outcome, but I’m sure it would have made the Priory look very ‘Christmasy’.
The architecture and stained glass windows of this medieval building is amazing and well worth the visit.

This is a must if you are in the area. We had a warm welcome from one of the volunteers who was very knowledgeable about the features of interest..and there is an awful lot of interest to see in the church! The design of the tower is also intriguing.

Situated in the lovely villiage of Cartmel, the medieval priory is well worth a visit. It brims history, from the 12th century oak timbered roof, traceried windows and tomb of Lord Harrington, the 15th century stained glass window, choir screen and misericords, the 19th century organ and carved stone & marble font and pulpit. An active parish church, the priory affords its visitors a quiet and beautiful space.

This church dominates the village. Dates back to 12 th century. Some really historic internal features including the seating in the choir. If you are in Cartmel do not miss this place.
