“Easy, comfortable, beautiful surroundings, close to the Northern Lakes”
Reviewed 9 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

My wife and I stayed over the Easter weekend with three children under 10 - we wanted somewhere where they could all sleep in the one room (our twins shared the double bed). The apartment was clean and and very well kitted out, tastefully decorated, and everything was in working order. There is a small butchers, bakers and grocers, plus a large spar and a small co-op, a range of gift shops and a few places to eat out in Alston (we ate at the Alston House Hotel which was very nice), the market square is busy with locals and tourists and the whole place has a friendly feel. Peter and Sonia were perfect hosts, always on hand with a friendly word whilst never intrusive. We followed their advice and firstly took the kids on the tourist train ride (our boys are 5 and they thoroughly enjoyed it - it was just short enough and the kids got to sit in the cab while it was stationary at the end of the line) and secondly visited Asgill Force Waterfall (a short walk from the road and we got to safely stand behind a decent sized waterfall) - both recommendations were ideal for our needs and we really enjoyed the day. We also spent a day in the Lake District - a very scenic 40 minute drive from Alston and you are at Ullswater. The drive involves coming down off the Pennines, and as you do the view out to the peaks of the Lakes is spectacular. Honestly we had such a wonderful break, I can't recommend it enough!

“Excellent apartment with stunning views!”
Reviewed 13 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Stunning location in nice quite village. Went for relaxing week and this is what we had.

There are some lovely local walks with stunning scenery and views.

In the village there is a butchers, bakery, fish and chip shop, Indian takeaway as well as pubs and cafés as well as a co-op.

The only down side is we were involved in a minor car accident near Penrith however Sonia came and helped us back to the apartment which was greatly appreciated.

“Excellent !! Home from Home”
Reviewed 3 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

This property is really home from home. It has all you could need and more. We were greeted upon arrival, with fresh flowers on the table. The owner was very helpful and gave us lots of information of places to visit. The town was pleasant with all you could need from a bakers to gift shop, with a few pubs serving good food. A great base to explore Cumbria, cycling here is great.
There are also two other properties next to this one, designed the same, so if you are a large group but like your own space these are ideal.

“A Beautiful Cottage”

A beautiful cottage, which well deserves the awards it has achieved (Best New Build & Gold Rating). Everything you could want in a holiday cottage is here, even fresh milk and flowers.
Even though the weather wasn't great for our stay it is so lovely to have the balcony and should you so wish a downstairs patio area as well. The village is very quiet and away from it all but there are several good eateries nearby - The Shepherds Inn at Melmerby and The Coach House (Nent Hall). For provisions we found the local Co-Op offered good value, a good selection and the staff were really friendly. As mentioned there is every piece of equipment you could wish for in the kitchen and I know properties are asked to provide some obscure things to obtain their ratings but with everything on display the kitchen was very cluttered and hence worktop space short, there is also only one cupboard for food. I couldn't understand the need for two dining tables adjacent to each other? Because we took the offer of a two person discount we were allocated a bedroom and the other was locked. We definitely only needed one bed but would have found the extra wardrobe space/hangers useful as our wardrobe was only a single with 8 hangers (not enough for two people for a week).
