Description: We are situated in the heart of the picturesque Buckinghamshire village of Taplow, close to the historic river Thames, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Whether you are just dropping in for a quick drink or are planning to have a meal, you can always expect a warm and friendly welcome and a place where you can relax and get away from the stresses and strains of daily life. Our extensive menus cover everything from a quick snack to three course meals. We also have a good selection of fine wines from which you can choose to complement your meal. In the summer months, you can, if you wish, eat alfresco on our lovely patio or in the garden. There are many places of historical interest nearby, including Cliveden House, former home of Lord and Lady Astor, which was infamously associated with the 'Profumo Affair'. Also of interest is St Nicholas church, which is in the village itself.

4 of us met here for Sunday lunch and due to footie being on we reserved a table outside in the wonderful patio area, this was surrounded by the most amazing floral displays. We chose this pub as it was equal distance between us.

All the staff were very friendly and didn't mind that we were taking a long time to order as we were busy chatting and planning a trip away. We have never been to any pub where the drinks were served in cut glass glasses, like being at home.

The food was very good and we all thoroughly enjoyed our 3 courses. We all chose salads as it was so hot, the roasts looked lovely and would be great on a cold day.

If we are ever in the area again will defiantly call in again for food.

The worst place in Berkshire, full of locals who sit in the gardens all day drinkinh beer, very unfriendly and not serving drinks for 30 minutes since arrival and unimaginative menu, burgers??? Please!! Hire a better chef! Never again! Had to run away, no one really cared as this is the only place to eat in Taplow!

Dear Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms 8dindin,

I was going to ignore your review as I believe you are probably one of our competitors with a nasty, jealous streak because we are doing so well, but then I thought no, this could be fun!

Let’s imagine you are a normal human being. Of course we welcome constructive criticism as we have strived long and hard to maintain our reputation for great fresh food, friendly staff, delightful location and traditional village pub atmosphere.

And after all, we are the current holders of BEST PUB OF THE YEAR 2017!

We have held a “Certificate of Excellence” awarded by Trip Advisor for the fantastic reviews we regularly receive for the past 14 years, by reviewers just like you (well sort of like you, but educated).

We have been recommended by the Telegraph as a place for great steaks in Taplow.

We have been reviewed by several social media food bloggers and recommended to their readers.

And we have hundreds of locals who regularly join us for great food and drinks who don’t “sit around in our garden all day drinking” as you state but clearly didn’t observe, as you say you “ran away” for some reason (hope you paid your bill, He he!) after ½ an hour of “waiting to be served”.

Unimaginative (big word for you) menu you say! There are 8 choices of starters including fresh fish from Cornwall or Devon each day. Main courses too many to mention but include the “best steaks ever” according to many customer comments. A daily specials menu consisting of at least 4 more dishes of seasonal produce. A fresh summer salads menu with 6 main courses on it. I could go on about the Steak Night special menu or the traditional Sunday roasts, but I’ve said enough I think.

“The only place to eat in Taplow” you say. Well I’d agree with you there, but according to Trip Advisor, we are No.2 of 12 places to eat in the Taplow area (No 1 is the Michelin Starred Andre Garrett at Cliveden House Hotel, well worth you trying).

Good luck my friend!

Best regards

Visited this bar and restaurant several times over the past few weeks.
We had a meal one evening and found the food to be excellent and very reasonably priced.

We popped in for some lunch today to this quaint pub and were warmly welcomed.
There are tables outside, shaded from the sun but we opted to sit indoors.
We opted to share the platter which was tasty.
My heirloom tomato salad with mozzarella was excellent and the sweet potato fries were lovely.
My partner really enjoyed his Cajun chicken burger.
All staff we encountered were extremely friendly and we will be back!
