This was our 2nd time to the Tulum side. Back in 2014 was our first visit and a few things had changed since then. Check in was good and fast, was told to get a cart to our room with baggage but we ended up walking as they were so busy. Wasn’t a issue and the Tulum lobby is in walk distance to most of the apartments that I’m aware of. We hit the beach on our first day. Whilst it is lovely, we do not remember as many rocks last time, it was just lovely white sand on the sea bed. There was no sea weed for the first week but it came bad 2nd week. I’m not going to complain as the staff are incredible and work so hard, it really is a thankless job to rake and clear this stuff up.
Pools were pretty good, the main one near the lobby is fairly rowdy, so if you like a more party atmosphere go here and there’s a swim up and and loads of games going on.
The food as gone downhill since last time. The drinks were watered down, and most of the time, although the waiters was amazing we had got through our food before they came to serve us. The food selection is good, but items like chips (never had any in the pans) so annoying, pizza was hard to get aswel. Chicken breast was hard to come across sometimes aswel. There’s seems to be a big bowl shortage in a morning?!? And the ice cream was very very poor, melted and crappy flavours the no one wanted. The food was the most disappointing bit about the whole holiday.
I can say the entertainment is good, especially Mexican night is so much fun!! Worth the money. Also sports bar up at hacienda are spot on, with free table football, pool etc. All the shops up there and the market kills some time on a evening aswel.
We didn’t do too many trips but booked all of them through scuba aquatic and grand Bahia and they was all good so I would recommended staying away from Thomas cook etc.

Thanks for a amazing holiday to all the staff!

Myself and my husband recently stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum in Mexico and had a wonderful holiday.
The accommodation is spread out over a large area of beautifully manicured gardens in low rise blocks. There are golf cart type vehicles which you just jump on and off and they take you all around the complex and also to the sister hotel 'Coba' next door.
There is plenty of wildlife to see on the complex including raccoons, coaties, cababurras, turtles, dolphins, squirrels and of course plenty of iguanas.
The choice of food at the buffet restaurant (seating choice between open air and air con) is vast, including a selection for any and every dietary requirement. The waiters will really look after you and are so friendly.
There are also plenty of gourmet restaurants to choose from and you can visit any 3 per week from either hotel. Our favourite was the Don Pablo based at the Tulum. The Chateaubriand steak was absolutely delicious! Alongside this, The Gran Tortuga has a large selection of skewered meats and the Mexican is a must for the Mariachi band.
There are a large selection of pools, from relaxing ones, entertainment ones and kids pools too. We spent most of our time down at the beach (2 mins walk from pool). The sea was beautifully clear and like stepping into a warm bath. There are some rocks under the water which you can navigate around, but take some slip on shoes with grips if you feel you need to. There was quite a lot of seaweed on the beach most mornings but a large crew of beach cleaners rake it up every day. There is also a beach bar where Mattheus works his socks off to make your drinks from 10am until 6pm.
Overall we had a wonderful holiday and would highly recommend this hotel.

BEACH:
For all the beach people out there, one thing to say: rocks and more rocks. this beach has so many rocks that you'll be stumbing your toes left and right. Also there are often lots of waves, so the "yellow" or "red" flag will go up and that means it's not recommended to swim.
Service:
lots of the employees do not enjoy their work and you can tell (unless you go to a private restaurant). the employees seemed like they didn't want to serve us because we were young adults aka no tip. Additionally, they would be eating and enjoying the food "after hours" saw lots of buffet people indulge in cooked shrimp after the buffet would close as my friends and I walk by ( no embarrassment whatsoever). Additionally, when we first checked in around noon, we had to wait an additional 3 HOURS to check in... no rooms were clean yet... imagine waiting with your bags after a 4 hour flight and 2 bus ride from the airport (yes the resort is 2 hours away from the airport) brace yourself.

it's pretty hard to get around the resort cause it's so large, we wait approximately 5 minutes for a shuttle to take us, because it's so hot to walk such long distances.

The food was just okay. same old same old. Nothing "luxury" or to be excited about. There are not enough chairs/table to accommodate everyone so we had to sit in the back if you came to breakfast late.

The Bars close at 11pm... which means only snack bar is open 24/7 and it's pretty far from the lobby so we didn't end up going there due to the hassle.

Also when wanting to shower, there is no warm water for a few minutes so be willing to wait it out. so theres no internet unless your willing to be in the lobby all day long, so be ready to pay for it.
Overall, it wasn't worth my money and I won't be coming back here again. The only good thing here is the Brazilian restaurant, the food there was actually pretty good, and we enjoyed the experience there but other than that, it's just a regular resort with employees only looking out for their best interests.
that's my 2 cents

We travelled here for our honeymoon, with our 1 year old daughter and 10 year old son.

The food is outstanding. So much variety and a different theme each night: Portuguese, Mexican, Canadian etc. One day they had all ice sculptures decorated around the buffet, it looked awesome.

The breakfast was my favourite, with chocolate pancakes, croissants, full English breakfast, fruit, smoothies, cereal, so much!

There is a kids section with smaller portions for the kids, including sandwiches with smiley faces and strawberries on sticks. My one year old loved it!

The beach is really nice. I was really worried about going to this part of Mexico and even considered changing the holiday because of the seaweed problem. I love the beach so I was really worried by the reviews about how bad the seaweed is.

There is seaweed on the beach, but it is usually cleared up by midday by the amazing staff who work tirelessly all day to ensure it stays as clear as possible. There is no smell, I have a strong sense of smell, and didn’t smell the seaweed.
I went in the sea everyday, and it was so clear I could see my feet when standing waist high. There are small fish smimming in the sea too!
The sand is really white and pristine, and there was always plenty of sun beds and parasols available. The pools are also just a few mins away so really easy to swap to the pool.

The wildlife is awesome. Iguanas appear lots on the beach, when your on your sunbed realaxung, they are really big too, over 2ft long.
The Raccoons are abit mischievous, always looking for somewhere to get food, the kids loved watching them. They usually travelled round in families, and the hotel warns you not to feed them, as they don’t want them to become demomesticated.

Staff: The staff are really nice and friendly. I would recommend taking some tip money with you, but it’s not essential. There is a culture to tip, rather like in the UK we have a culture to queu or be overly polite.

We ran out of holiday money during the second week of our trip due to our daughter being poorly and having to go to hospital, she is fine, just needed antibiotics, meaning we couldn’t tip anyone, and we were treated with the same respect, service and charisma as when we had had tipped members of staff. I would also say we saw a few holidaymakers taking quite rudely to staff, talking down to them, and being unnecessarily demanding. I have seen reviews where people have complained about the staff, and I couldn’t fathom why they had come to the that conclusion as the staff would go out of their way to be kind and friendly, all I can suggest is that some holidaymakers maybe need to learn manners and respect.

Mosquitos, I would really recommend getting OFF! Spray it’s the only thing that worked for me. I never usually get bitten, and I was bitten over 20 times in the first few days.its about £10 from the shop in the hotel but I would get it straight away.

Rooms: the rooms are cleaned well daily, the minibar is restocked daily too, there is also a TV with a variety of different channels on which my son likes watching while we where getting ready in the evening.

The entertainment was great, and you can walk (15mins) to coba, or get a shuttle which comes every 5-10 mins, where you can watch their entertainment too.
There is a teen room at coba near the pool and water park, with pool, and football table which my son enjoyed when he wanted to stay out of the sun.

The coba waterpark is great for kids up to about 10 years old although my son made some friends and they invented a game and he played on it for hours. They had a kids party one day, with a pinnate, sweets, cake, singing, dancing and music, and about 40 kids joined in, it was great! There is a snack bar, large pool and bar near the water park too, so convenient. The sun beds have total coverage for the kids too, so they can nap completely in the shade.

Anyone booked to go here, you will love this place, it’s amazing!
