Within an hour from Mexico City you'll find the piramids of Teotihuacan. It's great to climb the piramid of the sun and the moon and enjoy the stunning views from the top. Definately a must do when you're in Mexico City!

I was gobsmacked by the sheer immensity of the ruins, the distance of the structures from each other, and the size of this ancient dwelling place. We dwell so much on the cultures across the ocean that I think we fail to recognize and appreciate the incredible early cultures that we had on our own continent. A must see if anywhere near Mexico City.

The views of the pyramids and archeological area is mesmerizing. There are areas around the site that clearly have been discovered, but not excavated. The views from the ground level and from the upper levels of the pyramids offer unique photo opportunities not only of the grounds, but surrounding areas as well.

Would recommend starting when the gates open at 8am to avoid traffic and crowds. In our case we started at Gate 3 (Moon temple), and worked our way south to Gate 2 (Sun Temple) and then to Gate 1.

I strongly suggest to go to Tehotihuacan as early morning as possible. We came there at 9:30 and was already quite full. Trying to left at 1 was almost unposible due to the stream of people going against us. The place is must visit once you are in Mexico.

I have been to quiet a few archeological site but this wqs by far the worst. the place was packed with tourists and to go up the main pyramid not only took us 45 minutes but when we reached the top we were not even able to properly stop and enjoy the view because of the people behind us. horrible experience.
