When you walk into this restaurant you are immediately transported to Italy. They really nailed the décor!! There were several areas to this place including a terrace, all with the Italian flair. The menu was distinctly Italian with other dishes featuring more contemporary items such as steak and fish and chips. A little bit of everything for everyone. The attentive waitress was knowledgeable about the different selections. The service was quick and the meals were presented beautifully. We were there for a late lunch and it was evident this was a very popular place. A perfect place for a ladies' lunch, a date night or lunch/dinner with friends. Highly recommend this place.

Cuckoo’s (at Coombs Market aka Old Country Store) Exceptional dishes (but don’t order the pizza, it’s only very good). Attractive interior. Friendly service. The very reasonable prices do not indicate small – or even moderate – portions. The philosophy is “family Italian”. A “platter” of anything is a moderate serving for 2 people. A single salad and a platter of something else is more than enough for 2 people. Sharing is expected, and plates for sharing are supplied automatically. Try to get there early (say by 6 or 7 to explore the Coombs Country Store (which closes at 8 in the summer) --- it is extraordinary and worth your time.

I love this restaurant & have spent thousands here including hosting a wedding here. But tonight ,I went with friends from Asia. In spite of several empty tables , we were seated in an awkward area right at the entrance to the room. A server bumped into me 4 - FOUR times!! I even mentioned it to our server & moved to another side of the table! No apology or acknowledgement given!
We ate our dinner which was as usual, delicious . 3 of us spent over $100. We enjoyed it but my guests wondered why we were seated in such awkward place when so many tables were empty. Apparently they had some scheduling issues thus the empty tables. You would think that given the empty tables for such a long period of time & the awkward area , we would have been moved. Disappointing. My guests enjoyed it but I did not. I will definitely think twice about attending on a weekend again!

If you want a fun and quirky day near Nanaimo venture to Coombs to explore the Market and Village and then sit down and enjoy a delicious Italian meal in the quaint restaurant Cuckoos. The service was excellent and the food delicious. Worth the drive!
