Beautiful land and scenery. If you enjoy history then touring the Custer house is well worth the price. The guide was curteous and knowledgeable. We absolutely loved this place.

We went in to see some of the historic sites recreated from the time of General Custer and the Indian war ca 1860's. Also wanted a place to take a nature walk on a warm sunny day. The visitor centre is quite nice with specific notes about the local indigenous population - the Mandan peoples and their settlement. There a re-creations of the large Mandan earthlodge settlement which was a permanent and agriculturally based society. The eartlodges are unique architecturally. There are re-creations of the Custer house as well as the garrison, cavalry post and infantry encampment for several regiments of troops sent in to stabilize the area (supress the native population) and prepare for European development. There is a network of nature trails that are quite nice and not overly difficult. There is a modern camping site system for everything from tents to mega-trailers. The path along the Missouri is especially pleasant. A refurbished trolley runs from a station on Third street in Mandan to the park - and back again.

We stopped on a rainy day but it was well worth the look into the Native American dwellings at the re-created village. Very cool!

A great campground on the Missouri River. The tours of the Mandan Village and General Custer’s residence on the fort was excellent.
