I stayed at this hotel 3 weeks ago. The rooms are very spacious, tastefully decorated and clean. I really appreciated the airport pickup service. They even fetched my girlfriend and I at different times.

The breakfast includes western and Chinese dishes and was always satisfying.

Service is good. They opened the restaurant for us and called staff to cook dinner for us. Bear in mind though that their dinner menu is only passable, but going out was not an option in windy and torrential rain that night. So we put up with the uninspiring menu.

The hotel overall was very quiet without crowds. However they did play tmusic loudly outside around 7:30 and there were lots of coaches beeping their horns at that time and causing a rucous

Be prepared to catch taxi to the small town... but it's worth the sacrifice if you prioritise a romantic getaway and relaxing timetable ahead of a hectic schedule.

Bear in mind they do not accept MasterCard or amex. The only international card they accept is Visa.

I do hope they take on the feedback on the dim bathroom lighting... it does need to be brighter. Guests cannot shave or put on makeup properly. I had to use the LED from my mobile phone to shave... not acceptable for an upscale hotel.

All in all I was happy but there may be better hotels for ease of payment and convenience. The trade-off will be smaller rooms and heavy crowds in the hotel at other places

Maybe hotel is too frugal to spend money. They only turn on air conditioning at 6pm, and will shut it down again during the night. After complaining to management, they turned it on at 530pm! Well it was shut down again at night. Either don't go during summer months, but will they shut off heater during freezing winter as well?
Don't think it is environmental reason. When a guest leave the room and pull the key, electricity is shutoff to the room already.

Samantha Resort & Spa is a premium property in Zhangjiajie with all the "Western" amenities that you might not expect from a hotel in central China. The rooms are large, exceptionally furnished and supplied with items you would expect from a large luxury chain. We highly recommend the Samantha if you are visiting Zhangjiajie National Park.

We stayed for four nights at the Samantha Resort & Spa in September 2015. The hotel is located not far from the entrance to many of the main Zhangjiajie attractions. The public areas and our room were all attractively done, and provided a sense of tranquility that was fairly unusual in hotels in China. Our suite on the 5th floor was very spacious and the layout worked very well for us. The main restaurant for serving breakfast was beautifully designed, and the tables were spaced far apart to give a feeling of “uncrowdedness” The quality of the breakfasts was also first rate – which you can always tell by the types of side dishes served with the plain congee, because the good ones (like The Peninsula Shanghai) would give you “sliced preserved olive vegetables (lum choy)”. Services at both the main restaurant and the upstairs Chinese restaurant were excellent, and both restaurants were immaculately clean. After spending three terrible nights at the InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise, we felt that we have finally reached paradise! We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Get a suite on the upper floor

It's a 5 story building. Grand lobby, giant size bedroom with two king size beds, which could sleep four Asian people, Matched with giant size toilet facility as well. Veranda had a round love seat. Clean, comfortable. But room lighting was rather dim. Hall way had a funny smell as if it hadn't been properly shampoo. Service staff was tentative, friendly and helpful despite their lack of English comprehension. Breakfast buffet was average, with hot omelette station and hot noodle station. If one wanted black coffee, one had to ask a waitress for it. Even room faced the forested hillside and odd rooms overlooked the city street. Foot and leg massage was good.
