Description: This local, Outer Banks restaurant is now in it's 35th anniversary season. That's probably why it's called a 'Nags Head Tradition' by locals. Currently open for breakfast daily. Weekends - spring and fall - and daily in the summer season, there's a robust fruit and breakfast bar plus some whopping good breakfast platters. When dinner opens shortly, Specialties are real southern cooking - like fried chicken. Also a specialty - local, Outer Banks seafood - broiled, fried, and always good. Steaks and prime rib round out the dinner menu. The "R" Bar is great for a late night meal or a special drink. And if all this isn't enough, there's Roxie's Retail - great, flirty finds for your home or wardrobe. It's a family run organization that is glad to welcome locals and vacationers alike.

Went here about 45 minutes before closing. Everybody ordered something different. Lots of sharing. No one found anything that was not delicious. The clam chowder rated a 10 but the shoe crab soup rated a 12! Service was great and the owner came out to chat. Wonderful time. Highly recommend.

This was oh so good. The food was wonderful. We each had ordered something different and so we were able to taste the different foods. We did not find anything we didn't like. It was all good. Great service.

This is within walking distance of the hotel which made it nice after a long day of travel to get here. The service was fast and friendly. The menu had a good variety.

We go to the Dunes every year during the 4th of July week on our family vacation. Typically great food, service and very happy. Its why we always go there. This year a bit different...

I gave 5 stars because the management stepped in and resolved our problems. We got there and had a large party but had called ahead. 1 hour later still no table. During this time ordered 4 alcohol drinks at the bar and 4 sodas. (It was a $60 bar tab) We were told children drinks were not a priority by the bartender and we would get them when we get them. When we approached the hostess stand the lady picked up a crumpled piece of paper with our name on it and said oh your next. 15 mins later we approached again and asked to speak with a manager. We were told as long as we could sit in 2 tables we could be seated right away.

Upon sitting it was another 15 mins before the waitress approached us for drinks. To make a very long dinner/story short it was another 1 hour 1/2 before we got our meal. From the time our drinks came and dinner the waitress did not approach us again. In her defense they were really busy and seems short staffed like someone called out that night....She was also very nice to us. Food came out half was wrong. We asked for a manager. She was pretty tired of our complaining at this point after all... we'd been in her restaurant since 5:30 pm and the current time was almost 9:00. She was no help...very curt & annoyed.

Finally my sister went up to 2 people at the hostess stand who looked official and asked to speak with someone over the managers head. They were it. They were extremely apologetic and comp-ed the entire meal! It was overly generous and now that I know there is real heart and caring from the owners we will return next year. I am confident we will have a better experience.

I write this review not to slam this restaurant but to communicate the Owners wanting the have heart behind their service and food. Most restaurants in OBX are family run. Just because you have 1 bad experience caused by people they employ does not always mean that is the entire restaurant mentality.

Give the Dunes a try...You will be back for the food!
