First time at Pier House for dinner. We have eaten breakfast there for 10+ years, and have never had any issues. We decided to try their dinners this trip, and we were very impressed with the food. I had a fried oyster platter with fries slaw and hush puppies, The slaw was very good, and the fries were obviously fresh cut, not frozen. The oysters were excellent, breaded well and very tender. The hush puppies were very tasty, with just a hint of onion, and hot out of the cooker. My wife had a flounder platter and pronounced the fish as perfectly done, along with the other items. Service was a little slow, but it was Friday night and the tiki bar outside was jumping, so that was to be expected. The waitress apologized for the delay, but since she was the only one working most of the restaurant, it was not unexpected.

As a previous reviewer pointed out, very few restaurants in the Outer Banks have ocean views - more have views of the sound, which is to the west, which makes them good choices for sunset. For sunrise, to the east over the ocean, this is the only restaurant we've found to offer that, although ocean-front houses and hotels do as well. We got there a few minutes before the restaurant opened, and wanted to walk out on the pier while we waited, but a sign said that you had to pay to do so. There was no one there to take our money, but being a rule-follower, I abstained.

The place feels as though it's been around forever. Some cute signage on the walls, a TV over the bar, friendly service but in no way did it feel as though speed was important. I had a breakfast sandwich on a croissant, which was good, hubby had the traditional egg breakfast, which he also enjoyed.

Gift shop outside the restaurant itself. Probably an average rating is fair, but because they have the view that others don't, they get bumped up a star.

I love soft shell crab, so I was happy to be able to get it. The views of the ocean are amazing. I give it 5 for those reasons.

Nothing good for dinner here. Got a hotdog. Everything was friend. Potato salad was good and homemade. View was amazing and right on the water. That's the best thing about it

Restaurants in the Kitty Hawk-Kill Devil Hills-Nags Head area that overlook the ocean are surprisingly rare, given that these three towns represent a stretch of highly developed property extending for 20 miles on the Outer Banks. The Nags Head Pier Restaurant is one such restaurant.

The restaurant sits at the Nags Head Pier that extends a few hundred feet into the Atlantic Ocean. The food is typical diner-style fried seafood with French fries and coleslaw served in a very informal atmosphere. My husband and I were there in late October. We sat inside at a table supplied with condiments and paper napkins that looked out over the ocean through dirty windows.

The beer on tap was cold, and the quality of the food was what you would expect at such an establishment. I must honestly say that it was truly authentic!

When we were there, it happened that the only other patrons were members of an extended family that had come to commemorate the life of the patriarch who had passed away. They were quite boisterous before walking out on the pier to scatter his ashes on the waves, as many had not seen one other in years. They graciously picked up our tab before we had a chance to object.

We absolutely got our money’s worth, and the experience is indelibly etched in our minds.
