Wonderful beautiful cabin with lovely decor and a great location. Every amenity was provided right down to fancy soap and shampoo. Beautiful location to kick back and enjoy the birds and quiet. Clear nights let us enjoy some amazing star gazing. Great vacation experience. Thanks so much.
Place was great and immaculate. It is cozy for couple. Kids max 2. Peaceful and relaxing and the surrounding were full of nature in the mountains.
We stayed at Birdsong retreat 7/20-7/23 and it was lovely. While we planned our itinerary prior to arriving we weren’t at the cabin much. However, it was a nice place to come back and relax to, we even walked to the fishing lake in the neighborhood one evening. We loved the loft with the window for viewing outside. It did rain quite a bit, but it didn’t keep us from doing anything nor did it stop all of the birds and rabbits from feeding right outside the cabin. We met Mrs. Pat as we were leaving and she was very friendly. The cabin had all of the essentials and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would definitely recommend the cabin for anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. While we were there we went on numerous hiking trips to see waterfalls and the beautiful scenery. Including: Dry Falls, Glen Falls, Soco Falls, Minho Falls, Fontana Lake, Road to Nowhere, Deep Creek Loop Trail, Tom Branch Falls, Indian Creek Falls, Juney Whank Falls, Bryson City, Noland Creek Trail, Gatlinburg, Cherokee, and Cade’s Cove.
When we arrived at the cabin, Pat the owner, told us the internet was out. This left us without any access to information. No cell phone access or data would work there.
We were extremely disappointed we couldn’t find any of the locations recommended by the owners or on fliers. We spend the entire day driving around and looking for the lake or water access. We spent the day driving around aimlessly instead. We spend our entire vacation driving around mountains roads that led nowhere. The Dam Access Road was closed for the season (March-October) and we could not find the alternate detour road because we had zero internet. We came to Murphy so we could be near a lake! Lake access was nowhere to be found. This should have been disclosed in your materials and on your advertisements online and on paper.
We also received several random phone calls, some after 10pm from the dial phones in the cabin, which were very disturbing to our two year old daughter while trying to sleep.
In addition, they had a broken leather recliner, which after I sat on it, I discovered immediately that the chair was broken. This happened upon our arrival.
The door handle was loose, wiggly and would not lock easily at all. The door was extremely sticky and we had a hard time opening it and closing it.
I was unable to get the antiquated coffee maker to work. The powdered cream smelled moldy and disgusting.
The long stairs were very dangerous inside the cabin, as they were not lit or illuminated. My husband fell twice down the bottom of the stairs injuring his hand on the sharp metal lamp on the table at the bottom of the stair.
All the bath towels and the floor mat smelled of strong mold. The bedding sheets did not smell good at all. It smelled of other peoples’ body odors and was very disgusting.
When we arrived, we were unable to pull into the driveway. The owners had blocked the access to the cabin driveway. We asked Pat to move her car so we could unload our luggage, as we have a two year old daughter. She complied, but later blocked it again. We had a very difficult time loading when we departed the cabin.
The stairs leading from the street to the cabin were quite dangerous and long. At night, they were not illuminated. It was very dangerous to ascend or descend because they had no hand rails. The steps were irregular and was quite dangerous. My family and I, including my two year old, tripped on the steps. The construction of the stairs didn’t seem up to code.
Also, the shower leaked causing ponding on the exterior of the bathroom floor.
As the final insult, we had to throw away our own trash and find our own way to dispose of it. This should have been covered in the hefty cleaning fee. When we left in the early morning, the recycling wasn’t even open for us to recycle the trash. We had to find another way to get rid of the trash, extremely inconvenient with a two year old.
Decorations were cute and we loved watching the birds, but this place should not be recommended for families with small children or those that have a disability. The nearest food and gas was 10-15 miles away. There are zero services around there at all. If you want convenience do not book here.
We were very disappointed in the whole experience and would not recommend this place as a vacation rental as things were not quite up to par.
This location was amazing. As soon as I hit the door I knew I would love the place. The cabin was very cozy, peaceful and the decorations were unique and I loved it. It was a smooth check in and check out process. I loved the marble shower, the wooden lamps and all the rustic features. The place was super clean. I would recommend to anyone.
